Royal Marines are commandos. They're more like Force Recon or Marine Raiders than the bog-standard jarheads. It's like our Parachute Regiment are more like the 75th Ranger Regiment than the 82nd Airborne who're basically grunts who are trained to jump out of planes safely.

It's akin to the 1st Infantry Division versus Green Berets. Or, in Joe/AF terms, it's Green Shirts vs SAS Force.
Like the guys in the video say, our military is smaller, but they are trained to very high standards. I've seen former US Marines admit that our Royal Marines are trained to a different standard on Twitter. One former Marine said he was talking to an RM in 2003 before Iraqi Freedom started and when the RM said his basic training was a year-long course, he knew our guys were different. |

I used to hate going to Twentynine Palms for exercises during my time with the Marines, but learned alot while there, and received awards for a few achievements which helped with my career advancement, so no regrets.
Unfortunately, this Daily Telegraph article is "Fake News", and some people will fall for it. This Marine Corps Times article helps to explain how these exercises really work, and why such a claim made by a civilian publication has no basis in reality. https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/new...ning-exercise/ As the Marine Corps Times article mentioned, no one surrendered. 40 Commando was teamed up with US Marine units. This Daily Telegraph garbage tabloid article undermines the value of these types of training events.

so, if it's garbage, why'd 40 Commando tweet "Victorious"?

https://twitter.com/40commando/statu...29291060269056 Maybe somebody who did participate was proud that they were able to travel to the United States and participate in the training exercise, and felt "Victorious" about the success of the mission. That's certainly how I felt after participating in the 50th anniversary NATO games in Europe. We also know that nearly everyone at GREEN DAGGER 21, a simulated five-day battle in the Mojave Desert, was actually a United States Marine, with the exception of the small presence of some British, Canadian, Dutch and United Arab Emirates forces. The two "factions" were United States Marines from either the 2nd battalion, 5th or 7th Marines. This was a situation in which a US Marine Regiment augmented with subordinate units to form an adversary force to actively challenge and test another US Marine Regiment. All subordinate units participating were taking orders from United States Marines during the event. This exercise will help to prepare for the larger exercise scheduled next year (Marine Air Ground Task Force Warfighting Exercise 1-22).
