Kind of a weird subject but how many that are comfortable talking about it have had your house/apartment broken into? How did you handle? I have not but been thinking about it a lot lately as lame as that sounds. I never really did and could leave without worrying much about it or even thinking about it at all. Lately though I have and cant shake it. Thoughts?

I was burgled once. Honestly, it pissed me off, but I didn’t have any trauma because of it. I don’t live in fear of it happening again. Although, I moved out of the town about a year after it happened, so I guess that would have helped with long term worry

Had my front door kicked in once during my last bout of city living, while I was on vacation. Oddly, the only things missing were a bass guitar, it's amp set up, and a handful of dvds ... but not my collection of figures, comics and video games, my flat screen (which was uncommon and expensive back then), home theater set up, cash, or a Rolex Submariner that was literally on my nightstand, right next to my dvd rack.
Turned out it was a neighborhood tweaker that "took it to keep it safe while I was on vacation"...no police became involved in that fiasco. Now I live in the sort of area where every house has a 80% chance of containing firearms, meaning most burglaries are done by those who know what and who are inside, and I'm of the age where my group of friends has been curated over the course of many years. I don't even lock my fucking doors. |

A rudimentary search of that apartment would have revealed firearms (which at the time was the only thing I was worried about), but they didn't touch anything else.

Wife's car was stolen from our street - she left it open/had a valet key in it (I had choice words for her about that part of it). Nonetheless the car should of never been stolen in the first place. Wife witnessed three punks driving down our street at 6:30 am a little over a month ago - driving by cars and getting out to see if they were open - she caught them - yelled at them and they sped off. Pisses me off to no end mostly because I have 2 young kids and they were both up the 2nd time and it scared them. Criminals are getting bolder and less afraid of consequences - defending yourself and your property seems to be becoming secondary to the rights of the aggressors.

It can and has happen to a lot of people. I have been lucky and I live in a small city 10X10 blocks within a major US city. Our police force is Class A and they literally patrol every block every couple of minutes. They know the citizens, their cars and when I go on vacation I call them place a watch and they watch the house, walk around and park their cruiser while completing their administrative work at the front of the house. I can’t complain.

I've only had my mail stolen.
Coincidentally eleven packages full of GI Joe parts and accessories I needed for restorations I was re-selling all ariived on the same day... so it was Christmas for some scumbag. The police don't care much about porch pirates. Hell, even my wife said "If they needed to steal it, they needed it more than you." That pissed me off to no end... some meth-head doesn't need the front landing gear to the X-19 Phantom. Some of that stuff was super rare and almost impossible to replace. All in all, I was out about $300 bucks in parts, but probably twice that much in profit. After that I had everything sent to my wife's work and that helped until COVID-19 hit and they closed. So it's back to home delivery... I have a camera now... not that it'll do much other than record someone taking it. My shit will still be gone, even if they catch the assholes.
