I already have a feeling what the majority of answers will be but regardless I'm curious what my fellow Tankers think about this somewhat touchy subject, Ladies feel free to chime in as well.

Rotten- I'm getting married in a few months, and I know exactly the conversation that you must have gone through for you to post this. You have my condolences. And my fiance and I agreed to keep my last name. Just hold out....

I am actually getting married in a little under two months, and we discussed this.
If my (soon to be) wife really wanted me to, I would certainly consider it. I'd rather not, as I am the last of my family's line, so if I take her name and have a son, it's still the end of my family name. Silly, perhaps. My fiance is cool with taking on my name, so we didn't have any issues. But out of respect for her, if it was really important to her, I would consider it.

Hells yeah if it was cooler than mine.
In any case I don't see what the big deal is about a woman having to change her last name when she is married. It's not like she becomes a blood relative by marriage. If anything the name should be hyphenated. In some ways I feel bad for the woman. She's getting the short end of the stick in this deal. She has to change all of her ID's and credit cards and such. That must be a pain in the ass. Plus she now has to correct everyone when they call her by her maiden name. It's pretty messed up since she spent yher whole life up until this point by going under one name, and now she has to go and change it. That must be hard getting used to as well. That doesn't seem very fair to me.

I have two friends who have. One because he despised his father and looked forward in changing his last name to his wife's last name. The other who wanted the last name because his wife came from a prominent family.

Have to go with the first answer without the Emperor stuff. I'm not going to change my name and I didn't want to force my wife to change hers. Told her it was up to her what she did. She is a very traditional gal though and thought it was cool to stay with tradition.

Hell no. If my name isn't good enough for her than neither am I. And its not just about the name, It's about respecting you as a man.
