Must have been a SW auction Sean! Sorry buyer dude your best offer was not good, you’re a lowballelr. Seriously ppl don’t know anything about selling that send that kind of comment. I get some like that. Do they really think that with my 1400+ rating that I don’t do research and know what my items should go for? I got messages last month from someone saying “things are tough, money is low. I’ll give you” and had a lowball number. Money is tight... so you’re buying vintage stormtroopers?? A figure that’s rising in price currently? Do these ppl try these cons in their daily lives? Do they do this at a gas station or grocery store? “I’ll give you $4 for those eggs but not &6.” “Security, register 1!”
Recently had what had to be ditzy teenage girl message me 5 times about some autographed supernatural fiction books that I had (all her low best offers were auto rejected), and by the time I figured out what she wanted, she'd found it somewhere else because I took too long to get back to her. I got one of those last week "What's your absolute rock-bottom price?" To which I did not respond since said item was rare and guess what, someone just paid the asking price a few days ago. I only had best offer in case it never moved, and I got tired of relisting it enough to take a bit less...but "rock bottom" ha-ha...this isn't a garage sale. I think that if you cannot offer above a seller's best-offer auto-reject range, then you should NOT contact the seller because you clearly don't want the item that much. Still better than craigslist. Haven't sold anything there for over a year. I gave up months ago even renewing posts. |

I've read a couple of sob stories, like I'm on disability and I want this for daughter's birthday gift (how many girls are into HALO toys?).

I usually ignore the “what price are you looking for” or “what’s the lowest price you’ll take, I’m interested” questions. I really think that but it now or best offer are self explanatory. I want the collector that will take care of it or share the hobby with their kids, or the reseller that is getting things now that they will sell down the road when it appreciates. Part of the fun in selling is who gets it and where I’m shipping to.

When someone asks me “ What’s the lowest you’ll take?” I respond with “What’s the most you’ll pay?”. That normally does the trick.

Same day, had a lady come up with a huge stack of clothes. All of the 25/50 cent items had price tags, yet all of the dollar items mysteriously had no tags. They threw down and refused to buy (or pick up) any of the dollar items. Basically walked out with a stack of cheap items they purchased, left all the higher priced stuff, which they attempted to contact me out of, on the ground. I have more examples if that doesn't answer your question. Lol.

That’s why I don’t con trooper. I felt bad enough making him wait a while while I recovered from an unexpected bend over. I don’t get why people are so cheap when looking for expensive pieces.

Experienced the lowballers myself. Thing is, I don't do best offers. I have a starting auction at the lowest I'll take, and BIN for what I'd like to get, and I'm always fair with my prices. Still get weirdos wanting something for nothing. A bad one I dealt with last year was literally harassing me because I wouldn't relist items (that had bids on them) at the price he wanted (way below the starting bid price). Searched him on EBay, found out he was a reseller of those items, and was trying to gouge me to get more profit on his overinflated prices. He went on my banned list real fast.
As for yard sales, last time I had one a old lady tried to haggle me on a 5 cent item. 5 cents. And she left in a huff when I said no. Sad. |

Haggling at a sale is not unusual, especially if you are getting a lot of stuff, but that tag removing shit is stupid.
One time I made an offer on a bag of very used Silver Hawks toys (that vac metal wears a lot) at a yard sale and the guy got annoyed "No. You know how much something like that costs new?" "SET ON IT THEN, GOOD LUCK." is apparently what I should've said. Or "I'll start my own yard sale, with blackjack and hookers..." Last edited by Sean_C; 05-01-2020 at 10:38 PM.. |
