f$7.99 is unreasonable? Then Jakks must be scalping at $9.99 for their figures. How about Takara with a $150 Masterpiece Grimlock? Barbie is what? $10-$15. He-Man $20???Poor us kids. This is amusing. How many Joes do you have in total?

So you no longer buy Joes then?
No one likes higher prices. I think $7.99 is pushing it, and wouldn't be happy if they went higher. I'd love to see 'em around $6.50 (which is what they were when I started buying, only time I saw 'em at $4.99 was when Target had the sale). Wal-Mart has 'em at $6.84, Toys 'r Us has 'em at $7.99. The Marvel and Wolverine:Origins (Wal-Mart doesn't have 'em) at Toys r' Us are at $7.99 and I think those should be cheaper because I don't think they're anywhere near the same quality as the Joes. You want to start a petition to get the Joes at a reasonable price, $6.50, then I'll happily sign that and there won't be any mocking. $4.99 is unreasonable, Hasbro will take one look at that and laugh their asses off and throw it away. You want to make a statement, do it with money and DON'T BUY ANYTHING!! Don't buy from anywhere online. Don't buy from the stores. When nothing sells, Hasbro will then get the message and work with the retailers to get the prices back down to where things were selling. So you want to redo the petition with a more reasonable goal, then I'd be all for it. But asking $4.99 is just ridiculous. Edit: So I was at Toys 'r Us last night and looking at the Joes. I had to think about buying some at $7.99, where at $6.84 I just grab 'em, and almost didn't get 'em. So to me, $7.99 is pushing it. Much higher and I won't be buying. |

Let's not forget that toys are a luxury (or perhaps "nonessential" would be the better term) item to begin with, or that few, if any lines are putting out similar-scale action figures with equal-or-better quality to Hasbro at lower prices. Playmates has cheaper figures, but poorer quality, articulation, and accessories. The prices are what the retailers (and to an extent Hasbro) have decided the market will bear. To say nothing of the effect that inflation and higher production costs is having on areas outside just the toy market. We don't tend to pay attention/complain when the price of food goes up, because it's a necessity, but if you look around and really pay attention, you'll see it's not just action figures that cost more these days. 25 years ago, people would've thought that $4.99 was a ridiculous amount to pay for an action figure, too. Prices tend to go up (and stay up) over time. It's just the way things are. If a person can't afford the new prices...then it's probably time to stop buying action figures. Or perhaps at the very least to buy fewer of them (which is the state of affairs for me personally...scaled a good bit back on my army-building that's for sure). Lets just keep trying...it doesn't hurt.
To just fall down and take is not right. To bring up the fact that yes toy companies have to test their toys is a must. However, the toy companies should pay that not us. I am sick and tired of these big corporations nickel and dimming everyone for something they should be doing from the start. So I vote with my dollars and started a petition. I would like to thank you all for speaking on the matter and a special thank you for those who have voted. $7.99 is very reasonable when you concider that most all of these retailers are only making 25-30% on their mark up. I most cases this just barely covers their overall cost of labor, shipping, mantaining a store front and all other aspects of having a store or website! This is completely idiotic conversation! |

Well I know i For one would like the 5 dollar tag back, regardless of who or where it was at. that is more than fair to be charged. Same with any 3 and 3.4th inch sized figure. And no i have not purchased ANY joe product in stores for quite a long time now.

I have about 150 25th Joes. I wouldn't buy a $150 Grimlock, too rich for my blood. What things cost and what people are willing to spend are two different things. I think asking to reduce the price to $4.99 is ridiculous and insane. I don't think the Marvel and Wolverine are worth $7.99, but I'm sure that's what the cost to sell price set it at is (I don't think anyone is trying to price gouge), so I just won't buy 'em.

I think the blame for lead based paint testing stems more from the small companies. Toy manufacturers don't have their own factories. They have to contract this stuff out, which means that it goes to the lowest bidder, especially for the little guys. And cheaper is not always better.
During the relaunch of Micronauts a few years ago by Palisades, the factory that was to make all of the figures got behind on their schedule. So they subcontracted them out (and didn't tell Palisades) So, all of the original testing was done at one factory and signed off on. But the production was done somewhere else. The result was catastrophically bad QC. (I'm just glad there was almost zero paint on them) This is the kind of stuff that goes on in China. We produce stuff there because of the cheap labor. Unfortunately there are too many unethical factories that turn a blind eye to paint and outright lie about it being tested. It seems that the pursuit of cheap goods from China is starting to catch up to the larger companies. They produced them there to keep costs down. Now, because of that, they will have to do all of this testing to keep children safe. (because if they didn't you know damn well that the lead paint would continue to be used) At some point they will either have to just do the manufacturing in the States where it can be more accurately watched over, which could increase costs due to labor etc... or find an even cheaper alternative. (and that seems frightening) I would really like to see some cost analysis between producing in China vs. the US. All of the shipping has to be a large part of the cost. And having worked in a couple injection molding plants, I know we weren't getting paid all that well as operators and mold techs etc... |
