So I got to thinking how much I miss the 80's and my childhood when I watched the news this morning. So I took a trip down memory lane and thought about the good times of video game arcades.
I miss walking into a video game arcade and smelling the pizza and pop corn. I miss all those fun arcade games like WWF WrestleFest, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam etc. I miss how most games were 50 cents to play. So just wanted to hear from some Tankers what were some of the names of video game arcades you went to in the late 70's early to mid 80's? What do you miss about the arcades? Any favorite memories? |

I was just thinking about the old arcades the other day!
Like you, I miss the environment of the arcade. Back when the place was packed and there was a big ol' group of people around the new game. When I was fairly young there was an arcade called The Dream Machine in one mall, and another place called Space Port at our big mall. As a teenager though, I spent the most time in the arcade of our local bowling alley. Off the top of my head? The games I remember most? 1. Track and Field. The one with two buttons - not the track ball version! This was actually in a nearby laundramat. 2. Karate Champ. This game was in a convenience store called "The Nite Owl". I used to ride my bike to go play this one. Ahhhh, the memories! 3. The sit-down Spy Hunter. 4. I barely remember the stand-up Tron machine. 5. Mortal Kombat 1 and 2. There always used to be a big circle around this game. I used to love watching the good people play it. 6. NBA Jam. My buddy Jason would play that constantly! 7. World Cup Soccer pinball (1992?). I LOVED that game! 8. Attack From Mars pinball and the sequel Revenge From Mars. Those games were soooo funny! I used to play them in the UMO arcade when I was in college. I'd be laughing my ass of playing it in between classes. Last edited by Cobra Terrorist; 01-18-2013 at 09:18 PM.. |

When I used to go to Las Vegas with my parents, we would go to Circus Circus. My favorites were Star Wars (sit down game), Paperboy, The Real Ghostbusters, G.I Joe, and Defender

I remember The Dream Machine! I spent the early '80's in arcades before stuff like Mortal Combat, etc. We had Vanguard, Joust, Defender, etc. I remember when new things like Double Dragon and Contra came out, they were huge. Then Gauntlet was like one of the last new games I played. It was a table machine and four player could stand around it. That was awesome. We still have a few places left that have arcade games up here. The bowling alley and an indoor minigolf place. Theyre dirt holes, but its fun. Both charge 25 cents per play, so putting a roll of quarters into a pinball machine (Caddyshack or Whirlwind) is pretty sweet cause you can play forever.

the only reason i went to the free roller skate nights at the roller rink my school held every few months or so was to play through turtles in time. loved that shit. die hard arcade was pretty swell also.
