I have used P90X videos with others and there is too much talking and not enough work. I have been using various video routines for about 8 years with other types of training. Videos are good to throw in the mix if you get ones that are well done, because to me it's like having a personal trainer on call. I recommend trying kettlebell training to add to the bodyweight movements like pushups, pullups, squat thrusts. You'll find your functional strength and endurance will increase, and with that excess fat is traded for lean muscle over time.

if you really want to lose weight, or even get toned up if your already skinny, just go jogging for 30 mins to a hour each day atleast five days out the week. i did this over the course of a whole summer and lost 60 pounds, went from 240 to 180 and its makes you feel like a completely diff person you just feel good. you gotta eat good too smaller portion meals you know the spiel.

Does anybody have a better plan or can make improvements I would like to know...at some point I would need to do a PX90 or Insanity routine but I think you need to be in good shape before you start those. DO the simple stuff to start out and lose all the fat and then you can push yourself
as for diet, chicken chicken chicken! i go for a long period of time just eating a boneless chicken breast with veggies for 3 meals a day. and pork tenderloin is a great lean protien source too. often over looked. with just dieting, lifting 4 days a week, and simple running like a mile a day, i went from this: to this: from 256lbs to 217 but a lot better shape then most 217lbers ive met Last edited by wormser; 04-10-2011 at 05:34 PM.. |

Tuna and apples? I read that Christian Bale got that look on The Machinist from just drinking coffee.

^^ I'll second "chicken chicken chicken" and vegetables.
I have a postal scale that I use for ebay stuff (I assume most people here do) and I zero it out with a plate on it then cut up a big 2 lb thing of chicken into 4 ounce portions, then freeze them individually in snack sized zip lock bags. I try to get as many big, flat fillets as I can, then cut up the remnants into smaller pieces and use them for fajitas or a stir fry. 4 oz of chicken is 110 calories, and its a good base for a healthy meal. For exercise I bought a used elliptical machine on Craigslist for like $200 and did 45 min workouts every day on it (conveniently, 45 mins is what most 1 hour TV shows are on DVD or two 30 min show episodes, without commercials). I went from 189 to 140 (I'm 5'9" and have a naturally skinny build) in about 4 months. Count calories, log everything, and make a simple spreadsheet to track your progress. Now in the summer I do my bi-weekly toy runs on my bike, and ride about 15 miles a day. Never felt healthier, and while I'm 34, most people look at me and think I'm 25ish. Pure awesome. |

To be honest, if you watch what you eat and actually work out, it doesn't matter much what you do, you'll lose weight and get in better shape.

burn more calories than you eat is a good way, but there is also fat content. my friends brother was an ametuer body builder and he was always eating chicken breast.

And if you just do the work out part, you'll stay in shape. I eat at least a whole pizza, 5 or 6 peanut butter jelly sandwiches and a couple hanburgers worth of food a day but I work out like 3 hours a day too so it balances out to me not gaining weight, but not losing it either and staying in shape. I love bad food too much.

A few years ago I was dating this girl that bought the program. She made me do the workouts with her, yes she was that hot, I had to agree. The workouts are actualy pretty tough and affective.
Edit: it was the P90x.

Haven't done p90x, but am just about to finish my first round of p90. For me, they've worked. Quick background - late 30s, way too heavy, hadn't exercised in years though was an athlete all through HS/College. Started with just using an elliptical for 2 months, dropped 30# but was get bored as hell with the workout.
Looked into p90x, read the website and it recommended given my fitness level I start with p90. So switched to P90 - did phase 1-2 for 3 weeks, which was a mix-up but didn't feel it was quite enough. So switched to 3-4 after that, 6 days/week. Have lost another 30# and added significant lean body mass. When you look at the work-outs, they aren't anything new or special, too be honest, but Tony gets down to business in the 3-4 workout, you push hard for 45 minutes and then you're done. his banter gets old, but it's a decent in-home workout. Only need dumbells or resistance bands, so the initial cost is low as well. If you're dedicated and have time to hit the gym, hit the gym. But for $50 p90 is a decent work-out if your looking to get into shape and can easily be done at home in 45 minutes or less. You just have to fix your diet and stay dedicated. It also works for my schedule since getting to the gym is hard with work/family/etc... Planning to step up to p90x in a couple of weeks, hope to see the fat loss/muscle gains continue. |
