Ok, so first... I apologize for the sheer number of polls I've included with this year. This was, by far, the largest number of figures released in a single year by Hasbro. It's insane how many figures were released this year. I'm glad I wasn't into the line at all, by this point, as it would have cost a pretty penny to collect all of these. I'm guessing Hasbro thought this year was going to be the last, so they went all-out, but then they decided to do one more year, before going on hiatus... and considering the 1994 wave had significantly fewer figures, this seems likely.
I've separated this year into a ridiculous TEN polls, including an insane four different carded polls! In order to condense it down to even that few, I had to cram different sublines into the same poll, as I've done previously. I also elected to ignore the Street Fighter figures, as they are not really G.I. Joe... just Hasbro trying to capitalize on the popularity of the fighting game at that time. I also eliminated the Rapid Deployment Force figures, because they are just re-releases of figures we've already seen... not new versions. Finally, as the previous year, I didn't have any real attachment to this wave, as I didn't have a single, solitary figure from 1993 or 1994, so all of my votes will be based entirely on look. With that in mind, for this poll, I chose the Crimson Guard Commander, as I'm a sucker for all things Crimson Guard. next to battle armor cobra commander that cobra commander is the best cobra commander in the entire line.
the 2000's re-release should have had this version's back, since this version was just the TBC commander with a back. |

Alley Viper (v2) - Is his helmet a snake, a dragon or tiger? The leg stripes make me think tiger, which have nada to do with alleys. I give the figure credit, it looks like a new version of Alley-Viper in design, reusing the waist/legs even.
Backblast (v2) - Swap arms and recolor. Not bad, though.I'll waste my vote on him. Barricade (v2) - Eeks. Bad, though. Keep the problematic gold plastic and add pinkish... Bazooka (v3) - The wrist grenades are soooo stupid. I think the Bullhorn legs were not a great choice. Another joe with two right handed side arms. Might have been good with better colors. Beach-Head (v2) - He's okay. I feel like I should like him more. Giving him Shockwave legs just make him more confused with that character! Bullet-Proof (v2) - Not an improvement. Cobra Commander (v6) - Disappointing they relocated the cobra logo after doing so well with the talking one. It's a worthy release, though, that keeps older elements while updating the character to mesh with current releases. However, CC in black. I dunno. At least it's not purple. Cobra Eel (v3) - COBRA PURPLE. Cheap removal of chest paint and Cobra logo. And the greatest sin, no robot shark. Other recolors from 1992 got their og accessories, except Roadblock, Mutt and Eel. One was a QC thing, they other two were no doubt due to cheapness. Colonel Courage - He's like a desk dude, but wears guns and a helmet. It's amusing. But I also feel a by-the-books guy wouldn't have a non-reg beard. It's hard to get past one of the sillier codenames, too. Another joe with two right handed side arms. Crimson Guard Commander - Could be anything. Why the tm by the Cobra logo? The face dome just isn't Crimson Guard to me. More like VIPER OFFICER. I liked the idea of a new no-name Cobra Officer. The results are so-so at best. Last edited by Sean_C; 06-05-2023 at 02:52 PM.. |

The head says Cobra Commander but the heart says Fisherman Bazooka. I just love the Adventure Team-esque characters. These guys both probably make my top 10 all-time figures though, or close to it.
It's surprising Alley Viper is so popular whether he's clad in neon orange or yellow. This was my Alley Viper as a kid and I loved him too, so I not immune to his charms. His start turn in Operation Dragonfire is what won me over. Add Beach Head to this group and this is a really solid heat. Sure, the hit to miss ratio in 93 was perhaps the lowest it ever had been, but there were just as many hits as any other year IMO. |

Hard to pick between the Alley Viper and CC, but I'm going with CC. Black and silver is just a sick look for him.

I actually love Colonel Courage. He looks military, has a neck tie, and maybe he is eager to get out there in the field. Even as a kid it looked like he was trying to aspire to a new position. Lots of character and I like it. I just call him Courage.
Also he's tied with CC and Alley-Viper so I must not be alone. Courage is a good sculpt.

Am I crazy to think Courage is only up at the top because he's got that old school Joe look?
