I actually had a line on a complete Defiant. Local pick up only but my brother in law was 20 miles away.
The fragility of several pieces (blue doors) ultimately scared me off. What is your sense of the possibility of breakage on a Defiant? |

Have you seen the figures Mr Black Major is going to bring out? Repaints of Payload. He has done a NASA version which looks great. I will be getting some for my Defiant for sure.
Has anyone got a more sturdy alternative to the Launch Complex? I opted not to get that as it is too fragile but I want to display my booster and shuttle vertically and not on its engines. Any ideas? |

I, too, was apprehensive about this playset. It is crazy delicate. If you look at it the wrong way it will break. I purchased mine because I got a deal on a very large lot of other vehicles. In retrospect maybe not as good a deal as I thought as there are a ton of parts that add up.
In our resto, everything came apart- sometime more than intended. lol As the crawler and gantry are the most delicate, we separated them. I did some repair work to the underside of the gantry and purchased some 3d printed "stands" that fit in the channel for the metal lifting rod. It works by keeping the crawler off it's wheels just slightly AND keeps the rod more securely in place. I've also ordered the 3d print spring perch repair kit which I anticipate will be helpful as well. Finally, there is also a 3d piece that holds the gantry "arms" securely so that they will not pop loose. So that will be my other piece of security to keep the gantry up and glorious! As I plan on moving in the near future, the crawler and gantry will remain separated until we have a permanent display area for it. As you may know, if the gantry is raised the springs do not have tension so with the repair in place and the springs affixed it should be a solid display. If stored with the gantry down, the springs will be under tension so I would then recommend disconnecting the springs. All this said- if you can score a defiant, I would definitely get one. To quote someone we all know "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Apparently they can snap off just from the weight. In general these play sets are freaking amazing. People get mesmerized by the Flagg and Defiant but folks sometimes don?t remember that the MCC came out with the Defiant. Joe was so huge that H released two massive playset vehicles in a year. |

I purchased these the stands from Primocustoms on ebay- Some $50+ for a pair. They work great! Also have a set of arm holders from him - haven't used them yet but they appear to be of good quality. For the other stuff I've purchased from gijoedioramas on ebay. I have some of his stuff for other projects and it's all been good so I anticipate that these new items will be of the same quality.
With these few pieces, I believe I will have addressed all of the major weak points save for brittle plastic which is something no one has a fix for yet.
