As some of you may remember I purchased a skystriker on ebay a couple years ago. I got it dirt cheap, but there was a reason for that. It smelled like poo! I mean actual human poo. I've spent a long time trying to get that smell all the way out, and now it's pretty much gone. Only problem now is getting the decals off. Scrubbing isn't doing it for me and I'm thinking of using that goo gone stuff, but I've heard mixed things on how it effects the plastic. Any advice would be welcome. Poop jokes also welcome.

I used Goo Gone and 2000 grit sandpaper on my OG Moray Hydrofoil and it came out great, IMO.
1. I peeled off the old sticker. 2. I used Goo Gone - liberally - on a soft rag to get off the remaining adhesive. You have to be patient and go over it 2, 3, 4, 5 times. 3. I then completely soaked some 2000 grit sandpaper (with the Goo-Gone) and LIGHTLY wet-sanded the remaining adhesive until it was all gone. I just re-checked the Moray and I've don't see any after-effects from using Goo-Gone. I did this about 6-9 months ago too. I can post some pics of the "sticker areas", with close-ups, if you'd like. Oh, and sorry...I can't think of any poop jokes at the moment. Last edited by Cobra Terrorist; 08-11-2011 at 11:18 PM.. |

I just cleaned my vintage skystriker and hovercraft with goo gone (I am not sure if I have a special one... but it smells like oranges) and I also used baby oil (smells fresh too) and it worked great. I think the new smells should help. The hovercraft had really caked on stickers. I pealed them as best I could. Then used the goo gone. For the stuck on sticker residue, I used a cotton rag soaked with goo gone and let is stay on the spot overnight. I was then able to remove the old sticker goo. I am about to give them a soaking in some warm water and mild soap. Right now... even before the bath... they look like glass. Good luck!
CVdelgado has some great info on how he cleaned his up: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-projects.html |

So you got a couple options, Goo Gone is good found this b/c reading your situation caused me to give my NR a second look......
Vinegar, Avon Skin-So-Soft, Silicone Spray and WD40® These removers are safe for glass, plastic, walls, sink, tile, appliances, cars and wood surfaces. Apply the remover to the adhesive residue and allow it to remain until the residue softens. Wipe off the residue and retreat if necessary. Rinse the surface with warm, soapy water. Read more: List of Adhesive Removers | eHow.com List of Adhesive Removers | eHow.com <- this is a cheap ass add that found it's way into my copy/paste...... slick mo fos.

you know, I have a Skystriker canopy that smelled like crap too. Like stale death.
I tried putting it into a bag with dryer sheets, it sat there for a year and did not help. I ended up using the Peroxide method on it and the smell came out.

the goo under the stickers on my skystriker was some of the hardest to get off.
i got the stickers off with my thumbnail. then i tried baby oil soak for 24 hours and tried to get the goo off with rubbing alcohol. that usually does the trick, but it was so caked on it didnt work very well in this instance. so i busted out the goo gone, worked just fine. no damage at all.

ive used goo gone on all kinds of ancient joe plastic, never had a problem.
when i use goo gone i pour a some out into the bottle cap. then i use a q-tip to soak the area that has the goo. let it sit for a while, especially if the stuff is really caked on, maybe an hour. then wipe it off with a rag.
