I worked in retail long enough to know that's a fallacy.
I believe you're speaking of the individual. Hasbro took the more Vulcan and logical route but with a capitalist twist. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. Or... we can capture a larger market share, grow the existing customer base and increase profit or we can focus on a community that will continue to shrink. Despite how many exclamation marks they may use. ROC was a failure. by this i mean they didnt make enough figs, vehicles to back the movie. they even had to cancel a wave of vehicles. the figs looked like crap and the spring loaded gimmick was a waste of space. the movie was hit & miss. yes it made a quick buck for a few months. now they are the same figs on the pegs that have been there since day 1 of the new line. they didnt think far enough ahead. poc might be coming but it wont be out for a while. so what will keep the masses coming back to buy NEW joes if there is nothing new to buy. While the collectors know stuff is coming but we are getting sick of the dukes,SE,CC,SS& destros. Hasbro has so many charters in the line up they can make but they dont. and that is what kills the line. who the hell wants 49 figs of se come on. what is the point we all have are minds made up on what is what. the lines has been drawn. If hasbro dosent get there act together there wont be a line left. they need to stick with 1 group of guy to run the line. stick with them more then a few yrs. if this keeps up i would rather see the line die and come back in a few yrs then deal with this. The way to save it is give us 2 lines 1 for the collectors 1 for there greed. so simple even a cave man can do it. Last edited by xhairs; 01-09-2010 at 04:53 AM.. |

Just gives a company an excuse to charge more for a product that might or might not be generic.
I was on Hasbro's toy store site the other day and ordered the second Joe 5 pack. you know, the one with the good looking Lady Jaye. I didnt have Flint, or Hawk yet so these 2 would be a welcome addition. I can use Shipwreck for a custom, and a ninja version of Snake Eyes....fine. But as I'm scrolling thru their product list. something caught my eye that REALLY pisses me off. Hasbro sell pre graded versions of some of their regular figures for about 50 bucks each! So to say that Hasbro doesnt keep collectors in mind is false. They do keep us in mind and is always trying to figure ways to get us to spend more money. Than theres always the "limited edition" figures. WHOO boy.... rememebr when they first got the rights to Marvel Legends? They repainted a Wolverine figure silver and released it as a limited collectors edition figure. Sounds like someone at Hasbro is taking ideas from 90s Todd Macfarlane. |

I'm too new to this hobby (started collecting Joes in 2009) to be able to make that satement, but I have to admit that being a Hotwheels collector for 20 years. If I compare Mattel to Hasbro, Mattel seems to have realised that there is alot of profit that can be generated with the adult collector. Mattel has the hotwheelscollectors.com website, and thru that site they sell alot of limited/exclusive stuff, they also keep coming out with all sorts of adult lines availlable at major retail. Hasbro has done similar things in the past, and still does but it seems that Mattel is always finding ways to keep the collectors wanting more and spending more, they seem to get more involved with their website and with all the conventions. Mattel is a toy company but, they seem to never forget the adult collectors.

I also agree and with good reason....hasbro only cares about bottom dollar whern all is said and done. when any part of the fanbase of any line if simple passed over and disavowed as unimportant said part will leave said line or what have you in search of something that will acknowledge them as important and nto just treat them with contempt and make them feel unimportant which is what many fans feel hasbro has done...not all but a good many.

i would love it if there were a whole new gijoe team saving the world from a whole new enemy but you could keep destro because well because people need weapons but seriously
hasbro stop recycling the 80ies why not take these brands into the future because 25 years of optimus vs megatron/ duke vs cobra commander is kinda stale imo. what happened in the 80ies i feel created whole new universes filled with a gabillion stories and characters to draw from. so how about giving these kids their own generation of gijoe and transformers thats my rant
