Love this figure. Docking a couple points because I think he could have come with more accessories. I appreciate the unmasked head, but I would pretty much never display Big Boa without his iconic helmet. For some characters, I never want to know what they look like. The mystery is more interesting than anything that could ever be revealed. Would have preferred the budget go towards other accessories but these are minor lil nitpicks. He's awesome. |

Amazing photo of Big Boa, DF! I definitely prefer Cobra masked characters to stay masked since it maintains the mystery. Scrap-Iron gets a pass since his original figure was originally going to have one and because the lower half of his face was exposed.

The unmasked head is interesting to me because it looks very similar to the Punisher MU V1 head that I used for my unmasked Boa, and I think plenty of other people have used, as well.

All good points Eurolock. The helmet size looks okay to me and maybe it's just because the old o-rings tended to have over-sized noggins? I think I would have preferred the breathing tube to be removable (like Croc Master's was), but it doesn't detract from the figure for me I guess. The one thing I kind of wish he did have that you mentioned is the brighter and more saturated blue pants. Maybe they were using his original card art color, which were pretty close to the same color this figure has.
The original o-ring figure's pants were more like this color... While the original art was more like this color... And then the Classified figure is this color... Almost looks like they kind of went with both for the new figure. Which is kind of cool actually! I was also thinking again last night about why I was underwhelmed by Big Boa and I think another element is the reuse of the Gung-Ho buck and the preponderance of large muscular figures in the Classified line. When Big Boa was released in 1987 he was unique in terms of the extent of detailed sculpted musculature on his arms and torso (and he looked like Stallone and Schwarzenegger). In Classified however, this type of physique is overused. Half the line look like Mr Olympia contestants. So, the ?uniqueness? of Big Boa?s appearance is lost. He doesn?t look special any more.

I think a lot of the o-ring Joes were pretty muscular too, no? Maybe we've just gotten a lot of those guys in Classified already? As a kid I remember a lot of the figures themselves and their card art seemed like they were big & brawny or pretty muscular muscle men. I don't necessarily think any Classified figures have really been any more muscular or bigger than their o-ring figures or old card art depicted.

I only judged on the figure itself (not the card art of the character) and, by that metric, the Big Boa figure was fairly unique in terms of muscularity in 1987. For example, the original Gung-Ho and Roadblock figures weren't particularly big figures - and they certainly didn't have the level of sculpted muscle definition that Boa sported. You can see his obliques and serratus, he has defined triceps...and check out his back. He was a striking sculpt at the time.

You'll have to explain that a little more. I'm a novice, when it comes to photoshop. lol
