Heads up, if you own the figure you may want to check yours.
Was recently redisplaying my GI Joe collection and noticed one of my favorite repaints from the line, the Crimson Neo viper, had a tacky feel to it and left red residue on my fingers after handling it. Today I was going to coat it with an actylic top coat to protect the paint and noticed the paint is now coming completely off with the slightest scratch, grazing it with a fingernail is enough to remove the paint. Looks to be an issue with the clear red topcoat they used as the black and gray paint underneath remains intact. Every part of the figure with the red top coat is peeling. Really bummed as I loved this repaint and take on the Crimson Guards. Last edited by sisco; 05-19-2023 at 07:55 PM.. |

Yup. That's what happens. As cool as it looks to have a shiny finish on something you can count on Hasbro to use the cheapest way to do it. Which translates to low quality finish.

Did they just spray paint over the overproduced gray figures to create this one? I think I might have three or four of these in storage.

I think I'm going to grab a bottle of cheap red fingernail polish from Dollar Tree and paint over it. Should give the same effect and hopefuly bond. Or at least make a hard candy shell that won't scratch off lol. Edit: If you have the Green Neo Viper repaint may want to check it as well. Last edited by sisco; 12-09-2021 at 02:47 PM.. |

I remember these guys had a tacky feel to the painted parts even when they were new. It’s a shame. I like the nail polish idea. Maybe someone could figure out what the closest color/brand is to the original color.
