With the new classified line up and running I was thinking about a few ideas for the new line.
As GiJoe is going through a less American- centric direction towards a more international appeal, how would people think about new Joe and Cobra members from various countries around the world? A few examples, we could have a character from a Gurkha background, they could be good at mountain warfare. Or a Brazilian character who is good at jungle warfare and Brazilian Jujitsu. Would be cool to have someone from Scotland, could give them a highlander type background. I think it could be a good way for Hasbro to introduce some diversity and potentially increase the brand internationally. Obviously any new characters would need some kind of development in film, tv, video game or comics to flesh out the profile/appeal. These characters should also be drip fed into the GiJoe universe as i assume most collectors would want the already established characters before getting new ones. I would love to know what you guys think |

This is an interesting topic for the line, and one that is probably contentious.
There is one set of fans who don't even want secondary/B-list characters from the classic lineup in the line, because it will slow the roll-out of A-listers. Then you have those who are more amenable to B-listers, but who would view obscure or new characters as taking important slots, from potentially delaying a Chuckles, or Road Pig, or Iron Grenadier, etc. I might fall into this later camp, but really, I don't want to construct some rigid framework in my expectation of the line, which if transgressed in some way, I feel frustrated or upset. I NEVER would have expected, or suggested, to have something like PD Destro in the line (this early, if at all), but wow, I'm kind of thrilled by it! If the designers draw up some badass character that they have a ton of energy and enthusiasm for, and they can make it into an awesome figure, kind of like Shadow Tracker in Pursuit of Cobra...well, that could be a very welcome addition to the line. Helix is another awesome addition to the Modern Era line, that springs to mind. Maybe it does mean that we don't get Muskrat. Or heck, even Shockwave (can you imagine!). I don't know. I like where Classified has been going so far, more or less. A few figures I think are awesome. Others, quite good. Some, more meh. But, so it goes with most lines. I like surprises. But that means, that I need a certain tolerance for being okay with the occasional bad surprise, in order to get the awesome surprises.

Thank you for your reply.
I can see the sense in sticking mainly to the established characters. I was thinking if the line is really popular they might think about adding some new characters to appeal to new demographics. Has there ever been a female black character for example? |

I would love to know what you guys think I mean for instance Destro is from Scotland, Bludd from Australia, etc, but more 3rd world countries would be cool. I always wish they’d take the ARAH and give them more US based locations other than RI ( even though Hasbros headquarters is here and that’s why they used RI and Pawtucket so much) or NY. Be cool to see some of the classified Joes or Cobras now show New US locations or Worlwide locations. Beirut, Dublin , Morocco , Germany , would be some cool new figure locations or unlocked existing classified figure locations.

I always assumed as a kid that Outback was from Australia and many people think that Recondo has like a South African background so it could work as long as they make sense

I thought Recondo was Australian because he had a hat like Crocodile Dundee.

I like the idea of bringing in more international characters to appeal to more people. I would prefer they dig up old Action Force characters, or other foreign "Joe" lines, to do so, though.

I like a mix of old a new, definitely. Give me a Baroness, Alley Viper, BAT and a unique new figure like a Cobra Interrogation Specialist (but I still want a classic Crystal Ball lol) or something, I'd down with that.
Of course, my top wishes would be Soft Master, and a Billy wearing his white ninja gear from when he was training under Tommy. If we just limit ourselves to the old lineup, it will go fast. I say we savor it and let is run many years. People are already complaining about the lack of Crimson Guards or Lowlight or Shockwave. Patience. Those are fan-favorites and are definitely coming, if we keep supporting the line. Frankly, I'm surprised they listed so many classic characters so quickly. Star Wars is approaching a slump, so maybe Hasbro realizes Joe is a huge goldmine they can tap. |

Windchill is from Scotland, he just lied on his enlistment forms.
There's always room for new blood in the GI JOE. But I think that $20 6-inch figures are less likely to see new characters without ties to old or new media. |
