Hi, I just recently got back into Gijoe because of the 25th line, and hadn't really been into the more "recent" figure until this line. I don't know what it was, but the newer figures until now hadn't appealed to me. But now that I'm heavy into joes again, I've gone back and looked into some of the waves that came out before this line, and there where some really interesting figures in the Valor vs Venom line, especially some of the six packs.
The various trooper building packs, and some individual figures like Covergirl and Jinx have caught my eye, but I don't want to collect a whole other line, just use the VvV line to add to my 25th collection. I was wondering though how well the VvV line displays with the 25th line, do they look good together or stand out? I know they both have very different bodies. I'd be very thank full for any thoughts on this, and any pictures of your all collection with the figures together. Thank you:>) |

it depends. Some of the VvV figures were repaints of classic figures. Those looke fine. But lots of them were new sculpts and body molds. Alot of them look really bad next to the old gi joes. They are misproportioned, taller and just dont look right. Still, there are a few that look really good and were done right in terms of scale.

If you are looking to suppliment your 25th collection with new figures and characters, I'd go with the "new sculpt style" as those tend to "jive" with the 25th aesthetic far better than classic figure repaints (which comprised the entirety of the 6 packs and original comic packs).
In regards to how they look, some work, some don't. I've found that larger figures (ie, the Spy Troops era and their repaints) tend to work best with the only noticable aesthetic issue being that their crotches are a bit higher than on 25th (granted, I don't have any of the recent figures who have the modified crotches). Some of my recommendations (these are figures I feel add depth to the 25th collection, most are new characters, but a few are reworked classics that fill wholes in the current lineup), most of these are fairly available through online sources: Barrel Roll (released with a glider in Spy Troops and Valor vs. Venom Adventure packs) Crosshair (preferably his Night Force or Tiger Force editions) Scalpel or the Mediviper TeleViper Bombstrike Major Barrage Snow Serpent (DTC)

I've gotten quite a few figures in the "new sculp" era. Stuff from Joe v Cobra, SpyTroops, VvV and the DTC stuff. They all blend pretty nicely. It's mainly the older ARAH (and any that the released using those molds) that don't work with the 25th line. Don't get me wrong, I still think they are cool, but it's the new stuff, 2002 and beyond that all works well together for the most part.

My favorite of the VvV figures- and one who stands toe to toe with my 25th figures just fine- is Guillotine. Like you, I had avoided GI Joes for years up to the release of the 25th line, and rediscovered my enjoyment of GI Joe in general through that series. Guillotine was part of a six pack and he just caught my eye as one of the more interesting of the group.
One VvV figure I wish I'd purchased upon his release is Wild Weasel. I've always liked the RAH version, but the VvV update looked pretty cool also. Trying to get him now though isn't as easy as it would have been had I been paying attention when he was retail price. Oh well, story of many a' collectors life. |

The only VvV fig I've ever liked is the Tele-Viper....
...and that's pushing it... To me the 25th should bethe older stuff, not figs released 2 years ago. Now, in the year 2030'ish...if they want to do a VvV 25th I'm all for it. |

I am the same way. 25th got me back into collecting Joes. Here are some compariston pics of my figures, although I usually keep them separated into 'new sculpt' and 25th areas:
New Sculpt Drednok Ripper, Cobra Commanders, Tele Viper, and Storm Shadow, in amongst the 25th anny Cobras. New sculpt Roadblock and Gung Ho hangin wit the 25th Joes: Hope this helps. |

DTC Major Bludd fits very nicely, I think. Sure, he's not a strict "update" but he 'is' very nicely detailed and he looks cool.
