I think I remember general statements from Hasbro in some of the Q&As that the prices have gone up due to gas prices (petroleum is used to make the PVC) and a secondary effect, shipping costs.
Or are the shipping and toy companies that have increased prices going to make out like a bandit now?

no one knows how long the gas prices will be down.... so i wouldn't expect to see shipping prices lowered just yet.

Now they can say that the "recession" is causing them to lose profits, so they may actually raise prices again. Fewer people are buying toys, toy plants (!) in Hong Kong are shutting down, I'm sure that they are feeling this crunch just like everybody else.

they should in THEORY lower the prices but they will always claim some sort of problem to raise priuces...corporate greed knows no mercy for the consumer. Only way to stop it is don't buy. No other solution.

companies are using the "economic crisis" to justify price gauging now.

Well, it goes to show you that it all lies. Everything is about money. They will lie to you because they think/know the bulk of the population is dumb. They do not care if they are exposed as liars, they only care about lining their pockets.

Well, with Mattel announcing a 3% cut in their workforce in November (1,000 jobs), not sure if Hasbro is feeling the crunch. So, far they have cut 200 jobs in January and their most so far was back in Dec. 1999.
But so far we are buying the toys despite the raise in prices. If this was a test in the market to see if consumers would still buy if they increase the price from $4.99 to $7.99, I'm guessing that consumers passed the test and shown they will spend money and help pay for the salary increases of Hasbro CEO's. So, let's keep buying and making sure we can help pay for these guys yearly salaries: Alfred J. Verrecchia - President and Chief Executive Officer $5,556,161 Alan G. Hassenfeld - Chairman of the Board $3,980,932 Brian Goldnerm - President Toy $1,702,110 David E. Wilson - President Games $1,695,337 David D.R. Hargreaves - Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer $1,319,251 HASBRO INC stock options, HASBRO INC stock price, stock quote research, stock symbol ticker, report

Remember before the 25th line? Were you bitching about gas prices back then? I know I was. Sure they got a lot worse but still. Don't expect the SRP to go down but I would expect to see more of the Target like sales to pop up more often. |
