Ok so... I have been thinking over this the last few months. I collect 25th (just figures) and display them loose in compartmentalized display cases. See here:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...tml#post188163 Those were the first few waves and I have tons of new figures and am preparing to put them in cases. My problem is I am having trouble deciding how to organize the Joes and Cobras. I separate each side. If I do it according to when the 25th figures were released they are all kinda mixed up. If I arrange them according to the release of the original ARAH figures I get a more uniform order. I was just wondering if any fellow Tankers had experiences or ideas that could help me before I start putting more figures in cases. Some arrangements I have considered: -Original 13 Joes together (a couple rows of green!) -Cobra Solider figures together (troopers, officers, vipers, any troop class) -Cartoon variations together (any figure that has had a second "cartoon version" released) Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions. |

I can't believe there are other dorks out there just like me!
I actually pine over these stupid details for weeks, and am constantly changing my cases. Yours, however, are display cases. I pack mine in squads, in order of Sqad leader, team leaders, and Squad members. It's kind of like they're in rank and file for formation. So leadership would have its own row, then the following rows are squad leader down through lowest ranking member in the squad, from left to right. I'm glad you guys are out there, cuz i'd feel crazy by myself

All my joes are on a open set of shelves, with the original squad on the top and the rest on the other shelves seperated by "type" (pilots together, water specialists together....Destos and the Iron Grens. are seperated as are Zartan and the Dreadnoks, and the Serpents are together. Also have my BATS seperate too. I gotta take some new pics to better explain...

I have my Joes displayed on two five-shelf bookcases.
On the top shelf of the first case, I have the original 13 (actually 11 at the moment), Duke from the Red Star/Duke comic pack (he just looks cool with the other guys), the Greenshirts, the VAMP, the RAM, Cobra Commander, a Cobra Officer, and a Cobra Trooper. The next shelf has Joes from 1983-87. The next is a cartoon-themed shelf. Under that is a sort of miscellaneous shelf with different versions of characters that are already displayed elsewhere. For example, the comic pack Firefly, blue Baroness, SRO Ace and Wild Bill, etc. The bottom shelf has mainly vehicles--the HISS, Flight Pod, AWE Striker, Night Spectre, and Armadillo. The top shelf of the second case is your major Cobra characters--Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, etc. Under that is a Cobra army shelf featuring Officers, Troopers, Vipers, BATS, Crimson Guards, etc. Next are Joes and Cobras from 1988 onwards--Tiger Force guys, IG Destro, Red Star, etc., plus International-themed figures like Ninja-Ku Storm Shadow, Red Ninja, and Pilot Scarlett (coming soon). Next are the arctic and desert squads with arctic Snake Eyes and Snow Job thrown in for fun. Finally, the bottom shelf has the Night Watch guys and the Red Ninjas fighting a battle-damaged Snake-Eyes. |

I have wondered the exact same thing. I actually have been bugging my wife with this question for a while now. No one else seems to understand, but I have found this frustrating. I have similar cases and want them displayed with some sort of flow. I was thinking the original 13 must be together but after that I am lost as well. I have pretty much every figure so far so with all of the repaints it could look silly. My cases are in my profile. Let me know what you come up with.

yeah!...so happy to see this thread...this also had me scratching my head...i pretty much have your ideas set up...however, i do not have a specific cartoon shelf set up...i only display one of version every fig except army builders and the OG13...
i have a tall bookshelf type thing with all my Cobra on it... -high official Cobra -sub groups (water, arctic, vipers, B.A.T.s) -air vehicles and troops -blueshirts and officers the joes have shelves... -OG 13, RAM and VAMP -Sarge Triple T and greenshirts -sea grouped together -all the rest i like the shelves better...more light plus they are better spred out...as is i am running out of room...AGAIN! |

Haha glad to see I am not the only one with this problem. I find the display cases a great solution because the figures never fall over and are great when you need to conserve room. Plus they look nice and neat which satisfies my OCD about the aesthetics of my display.
The problem I guess I am trying to avoid is going back after every 5 or so waves and rearranging the figures when its time for new cases. But that might be unavoidable. The best solution I have so far is to just use the original ARAH vintage release schedule and that should satisfy most my needs. I will have to just have a separate section for figures I have dubbed cartoon versions. I dont get all the repaints of every figure... some suck IMHO. I will display the ones that are obviously repainted to look more like the cartoon. I do not need 14 Destros and Dukes however. |
