I know most folks here are into the 3 3/4 stuff, but the GIJCC just shipped their Man of Evil and I did a review!
Oh no, it's the MAN OF EVIL! This looks like a job for the Adventure Team! The GI Joe Collector's Club 2012 membership figure has arrived! The Club offers a 3 3/4 figure or a 12 inch figure for joining. I choose the 12 inch figure and it's the debut of the arch-nemesis of the GI Joe Adventure Team, the Man of Evil! This nefarious cretin has evil in his black heart and bad intentions in his twisted mind! To make matters worse, he has mastered Joe's kung-fu grip! Will the Adventure Team be able to defeat the Man of Evil? YOU decide! The Man of Evil isn't the first bad guy for the Adventure Team, as we covered yesterday but he is one of the first villains in a traditional sense. Back in 2010, the GI Joe Club did a run of 200 "MARS Henchmen" which served as the first real 12 inch foil for the Adventure Team. Those figures proved to be incredibly popular and finally the Joe Club has taken my suggestion (and the suggestion of countless others) and expanded upon this idea to create some real arch-rivals for the Adventure Team. He doesn't use the standard Joe face, but instead uses the "foreign" head sculpt. This is a good choice and the flocking makes him somewhat unique as only in recent years has the Club began flocking foreign headed Joes. However it's the paint job that really makes this guy stand out. With a scar over his right side of his face and a completely white eye. He screams classic 70's villain. My only complaint is that I have a minor paint rub on one eyebrow. His hair is also unique with a white "salt and pepper" flock going on. A lot more salt than pepper in this and I believe this is the first time we've seen the GICC do a flock in this style. It looks great and helps him stand out on the shelf. He includes a sticker of the MARS logo from 2010 on his shirt. This concept caused some controversy with some Adventure Team purists, who both didn't want to see any crossover with the Real American Hero Joe and also didn't want to see the AT fighting terrorists. Unfortunately, I disagree on both accounts. The Adventure Team has had a documented history of fighting bad guys, even if they weren't implicitly spelled out in the classic figure line. Some of the stories mentioned villains and the old Viewmaster sets showed some as well. As for the RAH connection, I certainly get the trepidation there. However this version of MARS is not part of Cobra, but rather MARS before they hooked up with the Commander. This allows you to flesh out that story some, without forcing a connection hamfistedly. I love it. It makes sense for them to use something from Joe's history than to make up an entirely new organization and MARS works because it's just like SPECTRE or CHAOS, etc. Plus it allows me to use my awesome 12 inch Rise of Cobra Destro against the Adventure Team. More details and the complete score and rundown over at the web site. Infinite Hollywood: GI Joe Man of Evil Review Check out the full review for more and thanks for reading! |

Very cool. I want to get this even though I received Footloose. I have no problem with the AT fighting terrist nor if they were also incorporated kinto A.R.A.H.

No one else has commented on the Man-of-Evil? I guess there really are a very few Adventure Team and the Taller Joes fans on this site.

If I collected vintage Joe I would join the club just to get this guy! I think he's awesome! I've actually borrowed his design to make a Sigma Six villain for my custom Joe Colton adventure team figure! Glad you've got a nemesis for Joe!

If he was a 3 3/4 inc figure he might be ok...I prefer the 12 inch joes form side show to the other types of 12inch figures out there...this guy looks ...strange to put it nicely...the curly heair and the weird shaped body/articulation...I know it has it place in the old days, just not my cup-o-tea

It was neat to read your review of the Man of Evil and I can tell you had some fun putting it together.
I like the Adventure Team and since seeing the Man of Evil I thought he was a valuable addition to the product line. He is a very neat figure and the jacket/ accessory set is cool too. Most of my collection is 3 3/4" ARAH but, my first Joes were the 8 1/2" Super Joes. I would like to see the Club add more Adventure Team figures to the current 3 3/4" line- with the Man of Evil being included. I choose footloose for my membership figure but, I do really dig the Man of Evil and I may still try to get him once the Club store is back online.. There is a tremendous amount of quality product in the Adventure Team line. Unfortunately, much of that is lost on the later generations of Joe fans simply because they did not know the AT growing up and Hasbro did not update the AT. With so much innovation made in action figure technology like sculpt and articulation the 12" line could be grown into a popular series again. Hasbro however, has kept their 12" line at the bare minimum. The vary same thing happened with the ARAH line- like the AT Kung Fu grip ARAH's innovation was the Swivel Arm Battle Grip but, rather than continuing to develop their products into the modern era Hasbo let them fall into market oblivion. It was not until the 25th Anniversary that ARAH made a comeback with new sculpts and modern articulation. It's too bad the AT has not seen much attention from the product development people at Hasbro because the world is missing out on the tremendous content of the At. P.S. I would like to see the Super Joe line produced again in the 8 1/2" original size but, also I would like to see a 3 3/4" series as well. Magnum Power is one of my favorite sets.
