Makes sense though. Had Luke known earlier in his life, he may have been more susceptible to turning to the dark side, feeling that he should be by his father's side, serving the empire with his family, and the temptation of such power falling into his lap could have swayed him easily.

Obi-Wan knew Luke should know, but Yoda knew Luke should only know when he was prepared, both mentally and physically, to face the empire, his father, and the dark side that ruled him, on his own.

Man, this and other stuff like the lightsaber scene should have been kept in, they really flesh out the overall story and star wars universe.
