In the next few days HissTank.com will be doing a 4 part review of the Final Draft of David Elliot and Paul Lovett's GI Joe Live Action Movie Script. This script was the Original Di Bonaventura and Paramount Studios attempt to get the Movie a green light.
The script, if not real, is an intricately, professionally written, movie caliber level piece of literature. Based on what we have heard from Di Bonaventura blurbs about the project, and offline rumblings I get here and there from various people that do have access to the movie, I'm voting that this is the real deal. Figure its worth posting up a review either way... we fans need something to talk about for the next year, right? So that being said, let's get to the goodies. Click the Title Bar to view the Complete Review.

The script is 118 pages long. Movie scripts supposedly average a page a minute, so that puts this at a little under 2 hours, written. Editing and all that could push it longer or shorter. We've heard blurbs from interviews on the web by several key points by the above mentioned people. I will try to cover G.I. Joe fans' key points of interest here.
When a Vehicle was talked about in the script I gave it the correct GI Joe or Cobra Code Name. To be clear no official names were given for vehicles. So when I say DragonFly the script says Helicopter and so on......... Major Characters in pages 1-19 Duke Hauser, Rex - Cobra Commander, General Hawk Ranking officer in charge of the entire G.I. Joe team., Destro, Donovan Top NSA Spook, General Flagg, Wild Bill William Hardy, Hi-Tech David Lewenaski, Scarlett Shana O'Hara, Heavy-Duty Lamont Morris, The first 6 pages of the script starts off with Duke and Rex (Who we find out later to be Cobra Commander) as young friends making a blood brother pact by cutting an X into their palms and grasping hands, cementing a lifelong bond. They decide to do a little night Ops mission over at the base hospital. The boys have staked out the Nurses dressing room, getting a good look at a gorgeous young nurse while she is changing. Suddenly, the nurse's younger brother and friends catch the 2 snooping at his sister and they chase the pair with Rex being caught and Duke making an escape. They take Rex to a stall and flush his head a few times until Duke busts in and takes one good shot at the leader before the other bullies grab him so he can also meet the flushing treatment. Rex and Duke go back and forth inbetween flushes, with Rex being thankfull Duke came back for him. Finally Duke says " Besides! It's good training. It's like our first underwater OP!" Cut to present day: Duke and Rex (now in their early thirties) swim out of a Submarine (S.H.A.R.C.) wearing thick extreme-weather scuba gear.(The camera slowly rises from the deep crystal blue ocean to an eerie green glow of northern lights where you see a highly sophisticated research outpost with a massive ice dome(Destro's bio-weapons facility). As the camera rises into the stratosphere over Northern Greenland to a giant satellite feeding images of the base to a Military building in Washington D.C. Break to General Hawk explaining the battle plan to Completely eliminate Destro's bio-weapons facility and "remove two of Destro's top scientists/war criminals". There is talk back and forth with General Flagg and Capital Hill Suits about this mission and the Joe Team. One by one, four more members of the G.I. Joe team (Hi-Tech, Heavy-Duty, Snake Eyes and a Green Shirt swim out of the stark white sub and fall in behind Rex and Duke. Back at the Military base Hawk, Flagg and the suits are watching the raid unfold in real-time via cameras that each of the members of the G.I. Joe team have in their helmets. Snake Eyes swims up and starts to cut a hole in the ice, while above a Sentry (Snow Serpent) notices his fox hole is filling with water. Whoosh he disappears into the water with several others as the G.I. Joe Team take up Positions. Meanwhile above the radar of the outpost sits the air support, a choppy buzz of a man snoring fills the Military base where Hawk is watching the raid and gets embarrassed as he flips on a seventh monitor. Wild Bill sleeps away to the sounds of hank Williams in his Dragon Fly. Hawk Plays it off saying Wild Bill appears to be in a holding Pattern. Wild Bill is woken up by the shout of Hawk as he pans down to reveal the vast white tundra thrity-thousand feet below. High on a hilltop below, Scarlett is seen setting up a sniper's rifle and getting in position to lend a hand in the raid. The Attack begins and they gain entry to the lab. In the lab they notice Experimentations underway on wolves, foxes, polar bears ect... Each animal seems twice its normal size and ten times as vicious. Another part of the lab contains nothing but fully functional, though completely disconnected body parts. legs hop up and down, an arm does curls, working out its bicep. The Joe team finds the two scientists working at a lab under heavy guard. They observe them take several frozen tubes filled with a glowing purple substance from a cylindrical glass structure thats labeled: Storage and Containment and place them in a Case. The order is given to go ahead with the extraction. The Joe team mixes it up with a bunch of blue shirts that are guarding the lab and quickly take control of the area. After the main battle is over a lab assistant pulls a hidden gun out on Duke. Rex Sneaks up behind him and takes him out but not before he gets a shot off, misses and hits a containment unit of the strange purple substance. The G.I. Joe team rushes to excape the Bio hazard. The team makes their way to the Dragon Fly except for Rex who was laying down support fire when the suits back in Washington give the order to go back for the breifcase with the sealed containers of the Purple Substance. Duke tells them no, as Rex over hears the chatter and tells Duke he will go back in for the containers.( Meanwhile Hi-Tech has been placing charges under the ice to blow the lab) As Rex goes to head for the lab the Purple gas starts to steam from all openings of the base. Screams from Vipers can be heard as the gas eventually overtakes Rex. Duke is running to back up Rex when all the metal in the base seams to be eaten up by the purple cloud. Suddenly Rex, his gun and anything metal begins to burn up exploding the extra ammo on his uniform and dropping Rex to the Ground with severe wounds. Duke gets him back to the chopper after fighting off the lab animals and is told to go back for the case again by General Hawk. Duke does not respond and tells Hi-Tech to blow the lab and he does as it sinks to the bottom of the Ocean. End Pages 6-19 Next Up: Enter Cobra Commander! Make sure to check back for part #2 Review of the Live Action GI Joe Movie Script.

But...but...where is Cool dude?
Nice review so far, this sounds 100% better than the last one. I don't like the whole Blood Brother thing though. |

DESTRO that sounds good, thanks for posting this up. I have a feeling in this script, Rex ends up like Morph from the Xmen cartoon:starts good, but gets left for dead then returns with a vengeance.

Sounds good so far. I'd rather Rex be a different character like Storm Shadow or something. Its hard to picture CC starting out as a Joe

Thanks for the write up so far, man! Pretty interesting read to this point, though I'm not sold on the whole Rex/COBRA angle. I guess it sort of matches up to the way Snake Eyes and CC worked together before forming COBRA, but I'd rather COBRA be designed as a separate terrorist entity than tied to the backstory of a G.I. Joe member...

Now this is what I want to see. I know a few of you don't like the Rex/Cobra Commander angle but I think it is a neat twist. Since Cobra Commander would know how G.I. Joe operates he could make plans based on their tactics and even attack their hidden base taking them by surprise making the Joes the underdog for part of the movie.
I don't want to read too much in case this turns out to be close to the final version of the film but I would like to know a lot more.

so far i have to agree. this sounds like a good start to the movie. although i am a little iffy on the whole Rex/c.c. thing to it is a nice tie in but i think that it gives C.C. an whole lot of cards up his sleeve that he will never use. If you look at it C.C. will know everything there is to know about the joe team but that knowledge will be lost to the storyline and at the most barely dipped into. actually i think they should drop the blood pact and introduce the artic scene later as a revelation when the joes learn the identity of the commander.

Just so everybody is crystal clear, this script is now going to be updated (changed) from this version by David Elliot and Paul Lovett. This was the last script before they were told to work on it again a few days ago.
