I think the only way I see the Dragonfly easily working is if it not only features Wild Bill and Airborne but makes the iconic toy colors for these characters exclusive to this campaign.
That would piss off some people but I think the Dragonfly has negatives to it that need to be offset somehow by the campaign and ransoming toy deco Wild Bill and Airborne behind it is one way to make sure it funds. If Hasbro isn't aggressively demanding that every hardcore Joe fan needs to back this, I think it might actually fail. It's an impractical vehicle that will likely cost too much in economic conditions where budgets are tight and collectors are withholding. If Hasbro doesn't essentially mug us for our lunch money, I see a Dragonfly failing. |

One of the theories of the success of the HISS Tank is that compared to other HasLabs, buyers were more likely to purchase more than one (i.e., it's a smaller number of overall individual consumers). Some people bought 3-4-5 for their own personal use because they wanted to make sweet dioramas, others (hi! it's me!) bought an extra one to resell to offset the cost of the first.
So if you make a HasLab that doesn't incentivize people to buy multiple, the overall sales # is going to be harder to reach. If it's a $400 HasLab, I'm going to be hard pressed to buy 2 - reselling is a pain, so I'll probably just buy one and not worry about the cost offset. Add that up across a portion of the buyers and that could easily reduce the overall # sold by several thousand. It's not unrealistic to think (again if this holds, it absolutely may not) that a $400 Dragonfly won't hit all stretch tiers if it demands 16,000 or 18,000 to get there.

No way. The thunder machine should be at retail. I know people say its too big etc etc but i say bullshit. If stores can support all those big jurassic world/park shit large lego sets, barbie vehicles etc than things like vamp, skyhawk, stinger and such SHOULD be at retail. And i doubt they would languish longer than those other large toys that are on shelves at walmarts targets meijer etc.

I agree with you on this. Things were much different a year ago when the HISS launched. I know that personally I have greatly tempered my spending on Classified this year by dropping my original plan to own every figure that is released and I'm sure that others have as well. I'm very fortunate in that I really don't need to worry about how much I spend on action figures each month but even I am starting to feel the pinch this year as the cost of everything continues to rise at an alarming rate. Dropping my "completionist" requirement for this line has been liberating to say the least. Now I wish that I could unload the dozens of figures that I didn't care for but bought anyways back when I held that mindset.

Man wouldn't it be cool if Hasbro pulled a 180 and used a smart business strategy to sell shitloads and charged only 250 for this haslab? I am kicking myself for not buying the roboskull. How much was it?
