O think of you take into consideration that Bobby doesn't want to go back to Kickstarter unless it's maybe for a vehicle I don't think exclusive should be looked at as such a bad thing. He still has to build relationships with retail partners. And the better sales numbers he has the more he can not only expand but will have more power overseas with new retailers. Especially if he can get his figures into Wal Mart and Target. Also online retailers are only going to have so much inventory space so they might also need a reason why they should stock your product as well. Plus giving say BBTS a exclusive might also mean they're going to order a good amount of figures, where if the didn't have the exclusive they might order way less.

LOL. Dude, I can make an argument for right now being the Golden Age, (Platinum, pick your precious metal,) of toy collecting.

When weren't exclusives "a must," and when wasn't self space at a premium?

Retailers wanted the toys, and the big companies had power over them cause there was demand. The toy companies got to dictate what was being carried, it would flood stores with product lines. Oh you want to carry this toy line? Well you are forced to buy this many cases and these assortments of toys or you don't get it at all. That's how it used to be with retail, now it's the opposite, the toy companies have to beg for the big retailers to take their products and hope they are willing to buy more than a single case for a store. Toy lines in the 2000's died off, retailers began to shrink their toy offerings and stopped wanting to stock toys. Action figure sales especially fell off a cliff. The loss of dedicated toy stores has also made it worse and the end of TRU was a nail in the coffin for many. The landscape for toy retail sales is totally different from what it used to be, and now everyone is having to fight to get their product in stores, and even big brands have to court retailers by using exclusive product offerings. In the 80s-90s when toy companies had actual retail power and could actually channel stuff. We didn't have online exclusives, we didn't have store exclusives that were impossible to get, even when you had a store get an exclusive product line or release, it was plentiful and regularly available, the only roadblock was going to that actual store. SEARS exclusive? Oh no, I got to go to SEARS! But it was on the shelf and easy to obtain.

Night Force is a great personal example. I moved out of a city and into the sticks back in '87. This being the case, the nearest TRU was an hour and a half away, and I probably didn't go to one again until 90 or so. I literally had no idea NF was even a thing until I'd jumped back into collecting back in '00. I'm fairly certain that most of my peers were in a similar little bubble, as I don't recall ever seeing any NF on the playground, or even hearing of them at all for that matter.

That's certainly true. I recall going to one of those mall weekend shows and one of the vendors had some rare stuff I'd never heard of or seen. I asked the vendor where he got them and that eventually led to him talking about this new "internet" thing and how it would change everything. Now days, you might still not know about something but only because there's more information and spoilers available at our fingertips than any one person can possibly keep up.

As far as keeping up, yeah, I actually run into that with new reveals period, especially in terms of non-Joe product. Never having sold my soul to the social media companies adds to that as well, but that's a small trade off.

Folks also didn't really care about exclusives back then really. Oh well, I missed out on some obscure variant from SEARS or some mail in exclusive? Whatever. Now missing an exclusive has folks acting like a family member was murdered
