If you don't already have one you should really grab this before it goes to the moon. it will look great with the Ram and Vamp.

“Open ended preorders” don’t work because Hasbro needs a minimum amount of orders to justify renting time to have them produced. Will fans wait 12-18 months for an order for Firefly to be filled? What if Firefly doesn’t get enough orders to justify a new run? (Unlikely, but the scenario is sound for guys like Gung Ho or Roadblock or even Destro). GI Joe is hot right now, but will that be true in 8-12 months? Remember, for how hot 25th was, it was started to back up at retail by the time of the movie release (with HUGE overstock sells to guys like Family Dollar and Big Lots), roughly two years after 25th’s rollout. Also note that Hasbro has actually been VERY good about rerunning popular collector products: Omega Supreme is getting another run (original release in 2019, saw a run last year as well), Captain Rex is returning after a few years out of print. Fan favorite Darth Revan actually saw a couple of reruns for the fan channel, as did the Rebels crew. The core issue is time. Collectors are impatient, needy, and short sighted. Things are likely to work out given enough time and a little patience.

Yeah, all of that. The patience to believe they'll make good with the Cobra Island rereleases (did they specifically cite "wave 1" in the video? do we have any reason to believe they'll not also extend this to Viper and Firefly?) is a good call.
It's possible, but difficult, to have that without the naivete that Target somehow won't blunder it up again.

Remember, Hasbro doesn’t technically “make” the toys. They “rent” (for lack a better term) time at foreign factories to produce their toys. So they not only have GI Joe, but Play Doh, Star Wars, Transformers, Marvel, Ghostbusters, board games, Nerf, etc, etc.

Looking at other brands and lines I don't see the same amount of exclusives of mainline first release characters as in this line... There has to be something to that? |

A small display on my desk and a main display. When I'm into a line, I almost always have my favorite character or two on my desk (Shadow Weaver, for example, has been on my desk for years and years).

Not a 6 inch guy, but I’m even tempted by that set.

To play devils advocate here what happens when ppl drop of the line due to these short term problems (exclusives) and numbers start tanking, will they still put of the figures that are current exclusive at mass retail or look at the books and go GI Joe not selling and needs to go away for a while again.
At this point, if it doesn't move product, they'd likely just put the entire line back in the archives for a few years. Selling 80% of a line with low production runs (compared to the overall Hasbro portfolio) or selling 100% of that same line probably isn't getting noticed in any alarming way by the c-suite.
