But I do have to admit that maybe you are right. Maybe limited quantities is a good idea. I do not know much about Mythic Legions, but from what I gather they have a decent fanbase and they are produced in very limited quantities, which drives the demand. Which sounds stupid to me, but I guess it works for them. However I would loath Hasbro if they dared do this to GI Joe. |

It's not just about them being found in stores - its about them actually being made in the first place. Classified has released a handful of figures over the course of 1 year, including a 6 month gap between wave 2 and 3..
I am willing to cut them a tiny bit if slack being a new toyline and maybe the higher ups wouldn't commit to more figures without knowing if they would sell.. But this year going forward, they for damn sure better be producing full waves at regular intervals. If they don't put out at least 4 waves of 5-6 new figures this year, there is no excuse Quote:
I really do think the issue with GI JOE is that Hasbro's plan was to roll out wave one and then start the movie waves with a Classic JOE or two thrown into each wave like Marvel does with the Movie lines where you get some comic versions too. Because of the delays in the movie release, they are basically pushing out figures that would have been 4 or five waves deep before seeing the light of day, and the production schedule for those figures probably still reflects the original release plans. I am extremely frustrated, but I can see some of the problems they might be running into.

I think kids would enjoy toy lines like these now if the toy companies knew how to market to them in these changed times. We don't really have those "Saturday morning cartoons" to tell us what to go out and buy anymore. I do think the companies are *starting* to figure some things out but it is still tough and not like it used to be. There are some growing pains. Of the stuff that is out there right now, my oldest son loves the Spin Master Batman figures which are pretty easy to find (thank goodness). I am pretty impressed with those too. My younger son likes collecting really random merch from his favorite YouTube channels but he also loves the Lanard Aliens figures and I've gone online to buy them some of the old Kenner Aliens toys as well. Both of my kids enjoy those, really. Something I've been enjoying lately is following along with these Dollar Tree "Final Faction" figures. They are cheap, but fun figures with cool accessories and there is a QR code on the packaging that links to the cartoon they made for it. The Instagram account has been sharing people's toy photography which is cool too. So even this cheap-o line of toys has found a little niche in these modern times. It would be cool to see what the big players could do with a newly made up line that isn't just another licensed brand. |

Yah see when we were growing up we had cartoons on actual tv not exclusive to cable or streaming or whatever. They were on weekdays after school, saturday mornings, sunday mornings and early weekday mornings.
Now ya have you have to have x amount of streaming services, cable or satellite to watch cartoons. And most folks cant afford all these streaming things so until cartoons return to regular tv that driving entity that exposed millions of kids to cartoons and thus their merchandise will remain out of reach.

This is probably true, the line will still continue to sell. But if this year is a repeat of 2020 we will probably see most of the expanded 1/12 fan base drop it, and then the audience will be left stagnate as the only ones who will follow it will be the hard core fans that would stick to GI Joe anyway. And a decent chunk of them are 1/18 guys with little interest in 1/12, which can possibly limit the demand even more. Especially with other companies like Marauders, Joy Toy, Acid Rain, random Kickstarters, and ZICA producing alternatives.

I used to see those toys you mentioned restocked, but now , I don’t see most of the toys you mentioned on shelves or pegs man. Once they sold I don’t see them restock.
Only place I see them is GameStop. Thats just location and demographics. As bad as it sounds The future is online for the toys we actually want. But your sentiment here (B&M is dead) tends to be a uniquely American thought. In-person shopping is and remains massively popular in Asia. I got to travel for work a few years ago and visited several cities in China and Singapore. Malls are everywhere. Stores are stocked. Locations are crowded. Never forget that Toys R Us died because a venture capitalist firm (Bain Capital for those keeping score at home) bought them, blew them up and sold the parts off. There's room in this country for a speciality B&M toy retailer. Abdicating all shopping to digital and feebly welcoming Amazon as our future overlords strikes me as deeply, deeply cynical.

Availability heuristic is a perpetual blindspot when I read your posts. What you see (or don't see) in your day to day is not the way of the entire world. Nothing personal, it's true of anyone. It may not even be true of someone else directly in your town. It's true of me. Just a fact.
