Man! So today I finally opened up my AWE Striker and assembled it. When I was a kid, I saved up allowance for the AWE Striker from one of the mail-in catalogs. Back when you had to wait 4-6 weeks for delivery haha!
I noticed that the decals for the Retro version seem to match either the 1985 version or the tan 25th anniversary version. They are different in some ways than the green 25th anniversary. Check out the serial numbers and some of the colors. I was using the photos on YoJoe.com as a reference in addition to the retro instructions. **One decal that I didn't see in the retro instructions was "spotcheck". It goes on the engine.** I am really happen with a design change that they made from the 1985 version. When you assembled the 1985 version you first would place the 2 sides of the cannon over the swivel where it attaches to the roll cage frame. Then you would seal it by putting the barrel tip over the cannon. As a kid I would remove the cannon a lot by taking apart the 3 pieces so it eventually wore out and wouldn't stay together. In the retro version, there is a hexagonal hole in the roll cage frame. The cannon just slides in or out of the hexagonal hole so it's much easier to remove. It also looks closer to the 1985 version than the 25th anniversary versions. For the 25th versions, the cannon looks like it sits in the back of the roll cage instead of above the passenger seat. One final difference is that the seats are dark grey like the 1985 version instead of green like the 25th anniversary green version. Anyways this is awesome to have again. I haven't had an AWE Striker since the 1985 version although I did get my brother the black version from 2001 with Pathfinder for a Christmas present. Dig it out and sell it on eBay; a lot of us like those kinds of figures as novelties.

So, catch me up here, since this is the first time in months I have checked in: what's this product line about?

So the Retro line should actually be called the Retro Packaging Line as that is the only "Retro" part of this line. A lot of people thought this line was going to be O-ring figures and were upset that it wasn't. This is Hasbro's attempt to keep the 4" modern era line afloat. I'm grateful for that, but sans Destro, there is a "problem" with every figure they have released or announced in this line. A lot of these "problems" are lazy and small mistakes that show the person in charge of this line is not too knowledgeable about GI Joe. I'm glad to have 4" Joe's, but I have reduced this line to just custom fodder.

This is what my local Walmart's shelf space has been reduced to. Used to be 2 pegs for Retro, 2 spots on the shelves for the Hiss and AWE, now down to this...

Whoa!! That's a fresh W1 case!!!
I think there has only been 2 times since last summer that I've seen more than 1 case on the pegs.
