I feel a whole lot better reading this thread and that Mr. Weber is a Joe fan from 1982.
My question, however, is doesn't the job description also include the Micronaughts franchise? Given that Mr. Weber worked on the cross-over box set, which included Micronaughts, I would think that his experience with the franchise would give him an edge over all other applicants. I just worry about Hasbro's vision for the franchise. The higher-ups may not give a squat about the history of the franchise. However, I think that in comparison to Transformers, they should be able to see that fans prefer a certain group of "core characters" in classical or somewhat classical look. So, good luck to Mr. Weber and we're crossing our fingers for a successful relaunch/reboot/whatever to the G.I. Joe franchise. Jason |

I really hope someday that's fixed. Hell, even a simple repaint of the POC Cobra Trooper into an official Officer as well as a Stinger Driver would be welcomed. A no brainer.
There are so many figures that got remade in the 25th-current line, that is nice... but there are a few that deserved better than a simple repaint... Crankcase, Thunder, and Slipstream for example. I think there's a potential for a "Drivers/Pilots 5-pack" that could be made similar to the Cobra Island sets. Jason |

Man, I think there is still a potential for the Dollar General-price range figures too. Even with the minimal paint apps, those blue and black Cobra troopers were nice army builders. The same for those green Shipwrecks, nice army builders. They could do the same with a grey&black Stinger Driver or what have you.
Jason I found the DG Duke to be great for updating some og 13 Joes like Hawk, Short Fuse, and Grunt. If we had a rolled up sleeve release I’d happily do the same for Breaker, RnR, and Clutch.

I'm in favor of a fresh perspective. I'm all in favor of a traditional RAH Joe fan being involved in some fashion, but I'm more in favor of the forwarding of the brand occurring through fresh blood.

I don't think those things are mutually exclusive.

They shouldn't be, but it seems many favor an RAH purist viewpoint; however, most of us are 40+ yr old males who don't understand the current market or children buying habits, so assuming any purist POV would be hopelessly skewed, that doesn't fee like the way to go. Nor do I feel that Hasbro would want that entrenched POV. An agile mind is what's required and although I don't presume to know how Mark would approach a modern rebrand, I will assume he may not be the guy.

Zap, there wasn't enough internal support for G.I. Joe when I worked on the brand (late 2014 - April 2017) to activate much of anything. That's not a Hasbro knock - they were waiting for the movie to hit before investing in G.I. Joe. I wanted to use app-based games as a vehicle to gauge fan support for different characters and vehicles, and to feature beloved (and brand new) characters in new animation or webisodes at the very least to build brand awareness with a new generation of kids.

Mark is far from out of touch. He understands how to make Gi Joe viable in today's kid market
