Okay, I do want Night Adder.
Is this suppose to be a trooper builder or an individual character? Its like Croc Master with a dog. |

Now that's just personal opinion. I like them actually a little better than the current Joes. I like it way better that they look like they're from the same unit. I really like uniformity to military based figures. I pretty sure that's what draws me into to them. It's just difference of opinion. The figures aren't bad and Hasbro shouldn't bend over and submit to every demand that the fan makes. The movie figures are still very unique. They not only look like they're from the same unit but each character looks like they are individual in their own way. I like the camo and color choices a lot. I truly support change if it works. I think ROC works.
Im for change too if it helps but I personally believe that ?RoC will do more harm than good. If ti fails hopefully hasbro will LEARN from it rather than say oh well we'll wait another 25 years to try sigma 6 the movie again.

You're Right that is my personal opinion and i dont deny that. As a kid the individuality, non-uniformity, is what i liked. And yes much of my hatred for RoC is the looks. Not completely the whole reason but the vast majority. If the movie had a more Resolute look to it I'd more than likely be more behind it. Let Cobra have the funky viper things and power suits....joes didnt need em...they were bad assed enough as is.

It doesn't look like that will happen but I really hope it doesn't. Looking back, sure the Transformers fandom is divided with strong opinions over Michael Bay's movie. Yet I don't think anyone is mad about how much good his movie did for the Transformers brand; it did exponentially more than Hasbro's efforts with the Armada trilogy(which was a big push on their part). So I'm hoping that G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra does extremely well for the brand so that we can get more stuff catered to us. Maybe even a late night cartoon on the Hasbro/Discovery channel next year, in addition to a cartoon earlier in the day for kids. Best of both worlds, money from both kids and collectors. Win/win scenario. Hell I hope we get a continuation of Resolute. Quote:
So what, it's not what you grew up with. That's the point!
If Modern Era stuff in Modern Era packaging were sold alongside movie figures, I wouldn't complain. Yet there would be people complaining, that the movie stuff is taking up Modern Era shelf space, even if the space for both is equal. |

Yes but that did not happen for another few years. It certainly wasn't the case in 82 when nearly the entire joe team was full of repaints(or lack of paint) with a few different heads.Yeah but then everyone would still bitch about how Ripcord is Marlon Wayans, how G.I. Joe is a UN covert ops group, et al. Even then you'd still have fans swearing off the movie line because it had Resolute-esque costumes in movie packaging. If it fails, retailer support for G.I. Joe will crumble. All the international retailers and distributors that Hasbro got onboard will think the effort put into bringing the line over to their countries was a waste of time and money.

What I find baffling, is that even if the new generation gets stuff catered to them, and we get bones thrown at us, people will still complain about something. If Modern Era stuff in Modern Era packaging were sold alongside movie figures, I wouldn't complain. Yet there would be people complaining, that the movie stuff is taking up Modern Era shelf space, even if the space for both is equal. Everyone seems to think kids are gonna buy this stuff but most kids who can buy their own stuff dont generally buy toys and i know parents in these times aint gonan be shelling out 8 plus bucks for some tiny 4 inch figure thats poorly sculped with over sized heads and poor paint apps. If people wanna force themeslves to liek this movie under the dillusion it will lead to more Classic products feel free but when everything starts coming out in bastardized movie versions don't say i didnt call it. Re-imagining is fine but lets face it...if it strays too far off the source material it loses what made it so great and RoC, origin film or not, strays too far IMO and in the opinions of many others i have spoken with outside of this board.

you mean the PARENTS of the kids. Like i said most kids who are old enough to have their own money are not interested in GI JOE or toys in general. Kids (im going to assume the target age is 5-13 or 14) need their parents to buy them figures aside from allowance money or yard work money and most parents i know have a hard enough time making ends meat without worrying about buying some over priced figure.

I think RoC will be big with the kiddies.
If Hasbro would actually make commercials for the gi joes. They might sell a few. They have to make movie toy commercials and put them on every network. Thats how you sell a product to kids. Then try to get a cartoon for the kiddies on. But I think gi joe is going to be big none the less. |

Yeah buying the toys for the kids.
Yes. More aggressive advertising in general is needed, there has been a huge lack of advertising since the relaunch in 2002. A movie is coming up, a the Hasbro/Discovery channel is in the works, now and next year are critical times to start advertising the hell out of G.I. Joe. It is one of Hasbro's top action figure brands, and I think all of us can agree that with regards to marketing/advertising/promotions, it has been neglected. For one of Hasbro's core action figure brands, this is surprising. Even more surprising that the lack of advertising continues up until now. Hell if none of us were even active on forums, I doubt most of us would have even heard of G.I. Joe Resolute. In my opinion, it could have been far more successful than it already has been. Kiddie hour seems to advertise Trix and cereals. I barely see toy commercials anymore. Are they still allowed to do action figure commercials? |
