This "movie version" of Cobra Commander looks like he enjoys trapping his own farts and enjoy the aroma with his "clear" mask. I bet this mask has the ability to change color with the different flavors.

You think Hasbro gave Hollywood free creative licensing? NOT!
When Transformers ended what was the first thing that popped up on the screen? "Based on Characters from HASBRO". Hasbro has EVERY say in what is done with the characters that they created and own all creative license to. Don't think a director or a producer came in and said we're gonna change Cobra Commander. Hasbro needed a newer version to fit the modern movie and they needed a new sculpt to sell more product. The hood and chrome dome can only sell so many more variations. Nobody TELLS hasbro what to do with their wholly-owned characters. Quote:
Sorry I dont agree DD......The Directer and producers came up with that look not Hasbro....it is based off of creations by Hasbro.....and it wouldnt have mattered if he was dressed in pink in the movie....they still could have made a figure of him....Hollywood did tell them what to do brother....

yeah, DD, i actually heard otherwise as well ~ basically the movie folks have pretty much free reign, apparently Hasbro has very limited (if any) veto powers... not saying it's fact, but that's what i heard with regards to Transformers.
Hasbro has some clout, as in making sure some of the TF1 autobots were recognizable, like Prime and Bumblebee(the original design for Prime in TF1 was all blue with a slanted back head, and hunched posture, the final design was a robot that stood tall, had red and blue, and had a much more recognizable face sculpt, the original TF1 head design vaguely looked at Prime until Hasbro stepped in). Nonetheless, the influence of the movie designers seemed to override the influence of Hasbro. Most of the revisions to the autobot's faces made by Hasbro did not make it to the film. It's likely that Bonaventura and crew thought "HEY THIS NEW MASK LOOKS BETTER FOR WHAT WE ARE GOING FOR" and Hasbro said "HMM...WELL OKAY I GUESS WE CAN GO WITH THAT, LET'S SEE HOW THIS GOES". From what Bonaventura(who didn't actually shoot the film, mainly worked as a spokesperson and in decision making) has said, the crew went with a less potentially offensive design for Cobra Commander's mask. As for me, I would have just altered the Resolute mask and call it a day. That mask is modernized, iconic, recognizable to the masses, simple, and effective. |

Are you kidding me? This is what they go with? This is the stupidest re design of a character I have ever seen. Yeah lets cross Krang from TMNT with Phantom of the Opera and Mr. Freeze. What the hell is this? This is the worst piece of crap ever. This is the breaking point for me, here. The last straw. I refuse to watch this movie. What a crapfest. You just don't fuck with Cobra Commander like this.

pfft. get use to change buddy, this is going to be cobra commander in the film and possible future movies (and comics and tv series if theyre is one besides resolute) the old hood and crome mask have been done to death its good for cobra to wear something that'll scare the crap out of you. i'm a GIJOE fan and i dont bitch and moan like most fan boys. every blasted movie has some changes. even transformers the movie and yet we all saw it some hated some loved it. but the fact is the franchise is changing for a new generation not just for 20-30 olds.
and i do like this new version of the commander *points at avatar* thats how much i like the design.

That's just it. He is VERY much his own person and likes a LOT of things I despise. Take it for what it's worth, I have very little influence on what he likes or does not like.

I think the mask is laugh-out-loud ridiculous camp. They obviously tried for psycho-scary but shot way over the mark into silliness.
I wonder if the unforeseen twist of this film is it's really a comedy, like a live-action "Team America: World Police." Last edited by Barefoot Jedi; 03-26-2009 at 04:13 AM.. |

The thing I don't get, is that some of the designs went for a more "realistic", real-world look, and the other went the complete other end of the spectrum.
It's like they split up character designs, and said, okay, Dan, you design the figures that we want to look completely realistic... And here, Turd Ferguson, stop playing video games for ten minutes, drop some acid, and scribble out designs for the Cobra Vipers and Cobra Commander. Why don't you design the Joe space robot ninja suits, while you're at it? We'll call it the "sci fi" elements, and morons on HissTank.com will defend the silly shit because the old cartoon had absurd shit in it. It'll all mesh really well together. |
