When I first read the title I was thinking....WHAT?!! They retooled the Ninja Combat Cruiser into a remake of the ARAH Wolverine.....then I saw what it was.....:(

Ninja and SS are worth $5-$7 for the heads. I can't paint and a casted and then commissioned paint job is more than $10 these days. I like the look of the Ninja's head with the no pupils. The SS head will be used for something.

These are not aimed at kids.
These are aimed at moms. -Dad goes to toy store, and sees action fugures. Sees ol' Logan and says "cool, Timmy would love it". He keeps sniffing around, because most dads do. And sees a Retaliation figure (let's give a cheap example, without mentioning the Ultimates) and says "Holy s#!+! I love these!". -Mom goes to store and asks for an action figure. Employee shows the newest exciting action figure. Mom buys the new exciting action figure without looking. I doubt that many parents would take their sons to see a movie of ninjas and a half naked guy slicing each other to pieces. And if they do, it's because Timmy is not that much of a kid anymore, and most likely would prefer a videogame.

Example #1:
I'm at Walmart, seeing if there's something worth (aside of the hot employees!). I'm digging thru the Iron Man figures (yes people, IM Wave 1. Still available at 40 bucks). Next to me is a guy of my age, with a very small kid (around 3) barely able -and desperate- to reach the pegs, and a small girl (around 10). The girl has two Corps! on each hand. "they're cheap, and Esteban will like them!". Dad looks little convinced. Little kid waves another Corps! in his hand. Dad spots what i'm looking. I look at him and say "way expensive than those" with a sorry smile. He looks amused and sees some clone troopers. Grabs two quickly and looks at little kid, who trows away the corps and yells desperately for Rex."Dad, they're twice the price!" says little girl, still grabbing the Corps!. I nod at the guy, he looks at the girl and says "don't tell mom". Example #2: Still digging, some Marvel Universe this time. Mom shows up and looks around. Ask to employee (damn she's pretty!) about Spiderman figures. Employee points to the Spiderman figures pegs. 40 bucks. Mom looks around, and without any further investigation grabs the first robot of a chinese knockoff brand (3 models) for 10 bucks.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to repaint the GI Joe figure than to make an all new mold based on it?

I've been asking myself that same question when this was first seen.

i am no expert, but i don't think so. cutting down on the amount of parts per figure i would think reduces actual production costs to the point of it being cheaper.

Toysrus will drop the price- they're just mixed up on action figures (who wouldn't be) these should be priced as the other less articulated figures- hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Fry's (generally a more expensive place to buy toys) has them for $5.99 These will still be over-priced but should be $7.99 at toysrus (same as the Supes and IM figures- and keeps them priced above their Tru-Heroes lines) |
