I getthe feeling those sick of the SE/SS storyline will be disappointed in Retaliation. With Jinx, the Blind Master, and Red Ninja Clan, we're looking at 50% ninja action.
I thought the right balance was struck in Resolute and ROC. This may go overboard on ninjas but I'm willing to take the ride. At least they're using real bullets this time. |

these GI Joe movies focus too much on Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow... I know everyone loves Ninjas but I think they take away from the original concept of GI JOE the American Soldier. It's also becoming the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ish. I guess my point is I hope they bring in the JOE and Cobra before this just becomes Ninja fest 2013. I'm still kinda disappointed Destro isn't in this and they messed up the Baroness. I kinda wish they would have just reboot the whole thing.

I'm sure the footage is awesome, but there is very little that Paramount is going to be able to do at this point to 'turn the titanic' in regaining the public's trust in this movie. Immediately when it was pulled from the schedule talk abounded that it was a steaming pile, the acting was terrible, they had to reshoot/re-edit the film to make it more readable as a narrative, and on and on. So, if you consider that 'Joe public' (pardon the pun) have already written the film off adding the 3D element isn't going to rewrite history and get that audience back and invested again. Major domo mistake.
You ask me they should have simply released as is, so as not to slow its momentum and/or engender negative talk. Doesn't mean this would have solved the films problems (if any exist), but sometimes a poor(er) movie is better than no movie at all. Joe 1 did well enough to garner a Joe 2 and it didn't have copious 3D, The Rock, or the death of Channing going for it. It simply was... and that was enough for most moviegoers, so why mess with the formula and screw with Joe 2's release schedule? Quote:

Anyone saying "I'm worried that there will be too much focus on Snake-Eyes/Storm Shadow" like it's some kind of new thing hasn't been paying much attention to this franchise for the last 25 years or so.
Snake-Eyes/Storm-Shadow and the ARAH incarnation of G.I. Joe are inextricable. You don't have to like it, but denying that it is the central personal conflict of the entire saga is flat-out denying reality. In other words, Snake-Eyes/Storm-Shadow IS the "heart and soul" of ARAH Joe, or at least a major component of it. Remove it, and it isn't ARAH Joe anymore. Ironically enough, Rise of Cobra tried to mitigate this situation by making the Duke/Cobra Commander conflict a personal one rather than just "two guys who happen to be the leaders of their factions." Unfortunately between Tatum's non-performance and dragging the Baroness into the mix in a silly way it fell flat on its' face. Also worth noting? Almost every quote from above was PRAISING the "ninja action." These are the perspectives of non-fans, folks....the people that they want to get to come see the movie (because despite all the bitching, most of our tickets are already sold), who they NEED to come see this movie for it to be a success. If a pile of Ninjas is what it takes to get this movie (and hopefully the toys along with it) over the top, then bring 'em on. |

The point is that we, as an audience, are for the most part already guaranteed to go see the movie (not everyone, obviously, but yes...most of us). That's all well and good for the studio, but if we're the only ones that went, the movie would be a bomb to make John Carter look like Avatar by comparison. That's why they need outside audiences, and from their research and the long history of the brand...outside audiences like hot Ninja-on-Ninja action. Doesn't mean it will be a success, but they're trying to hedge their bets. |
