I think like the other two Joe films, this will do middling business (Relative to other films released in this "We're not quite out of the woods of COVID" era). Good enough that they might try a sequel or maybe they'll just let the franchise cool it's heels on the big screen for another five years or so and try again.

Probably something to do with his films having brought in 7 billion dollars at the box office.

I’ve been following this site since 2011, but I decided to finally register an account today because I wanted to talk about Snake Eyes with people. I actually liked it and found Andrew was particularly a stand out as Storm Shadow. But my biggest gripe was that Snake Eyes never wore his costume and the ending was spoiled in the trailers.
I agree with the end credit scene. They totally blew that one by showing it in the trailer. Jason |

In my summation: Storm Shadow tries to bring Snake Eyes into the fold and Snake Eyes screws him over which leads to the bad turn Storm Shadow will take. I can’t get past this and can’t get behind this portrayal of SE. This has really bummed me out. It’s as if the MCU decided to make Captain America an ass.

I liked this movie better than Ret. for sure. I think it is just ahead of ROC too, but not by much. I agree that the whole "SE as an a**hole" is very off putting and makes it difficult to care about him as a hero. It also makes it difficult to believe that the left over Arashikage leadership would gift him this ultimate battle suit to make him their ultimate warrior. I just don't think he did enough to earn that honor from them, especially when he basically destroyed their clan. Overall, it's a pretty OK action flick, with some plot problems that make it difficult for the viewer to have that "suspension of disbelief" at times. Here is an example of how this movie was good, and bad. I liked seeing Larry Hama in his cameo scene, but it stopped the movie in it's tracks for a good 10-15 seconds it seemed. IMO, another positive of this film is that it's not political, and you don't feel any of that "woke" cringe-ness you sometimes feel with the phase 4 marvel product. For those that have a problem with them changing SE's race, I ask if you to please don't. They did a really good job of making SE's race not matter in this movie. He would have been an a**hole no matter what race he was. He actually hits a woman in this movie!!! Yes they changed SE's story, but they kept all of that political crap out of it. Thank God!!! The Classified line is safe for the future of GI Joe. I don't know if this movie will do well enough to keep the Retro line going though. I also see the movie toy line (origins toy line) as a soon to be shelf warmer like the space jam toys we are seeing now. It will be dead after X-mas I fear. Just some thoughts.

This isn't di Bonaventura fault. This is Hasbro's doing. When Hasbro decided to that the U. S. military was a bad thing and went anti-military who ever was going to do a film would have to go into a different direction. di Bonaventura only made the film Hasbro wanted under the parameters that they set forth. It sounds as if they have Snake Eyes Leatherneck's personality traits.

Liked it for what it was: A straight-up mystical martial arts flick with some expensive special effects. Different enough is probably good, in this case. Definitely a unique take on Snake Eyes' personality.
Giant snakes and supernatural "Indiana Jones" stone surprised me, but shouldn't have, since that's been a staple of G.I. JOE since the Adventure Team era, so I was ok with it. Required suspension of belief I was willing to give. (Who feeds those snakes??? What do they feed them??? Not enough potential ninja recruits are allowed into the compound to feed those 3 monsters!) Bummer: Snake Eyes' iconic suit should have been worn during the last battle, not given 1 nanosecond of air time at the end. Just like Luke Skywalker becoming a Jedi in like, 3 days, Snake Eyes became a ninja in about the same amount of time. I would have liked the RoC version where Snake Eyes (who doesn't know his name) joined young and then the betrayals happen at the Henry Golding (adult) stage in his life. (Even Hama's original 3 years wasn't enough for him to become a "Master Ninja" imho. Jinx was always just an apprentice and she practiced ninjitsu since she was 8.) Storm Shadow actor stole the show, no doubt. Finally, SS has a real reason to join Cobra! Granny couldn't get past traditions and Japanese interpretations of honor (which is somewhat believable in that older generation of the culture.) Loved Hard Master's character / actor. Hated that he was old. He should have been a version of the Soft Master instead. Granny should have been married to the Hard Master who made all her "movie" decisions, instead of her. Then he dies. Meh. A minor bump for me. I give it an A- for originality of the classic tale, despite the many TV and movie tropes we've come to expect from these movies.
