...That doesn't see any resemblance to a G.I. Joe franchise here? I mean the trailer for Snake Eyes, could have been renamed "Ninja Gaiden" and no one would bat an eye. Looks like the standard run of the mill shoot'em up with no relation to the fandom it's trying to covet. The character spends the whole movie trailer with his mask off; no look at Storm shadow 'cept a wide shot of someone without a mask wearing white.
I hate to be pessimistic. Thoughts? |

Hasbro keeps dropping the ball.
What do the Marvel movies have in common? The costumes look like the source-material and the stories of the heroes are similar to the comic books. Snake-Eyes was in the military and then studied martial arts. But we get a different story yet again for the movies. The only movie close to anything Gi Joe we've ever gotten was Predator. |

You're absolutely right. This was a trailer for a movie that should've been called, Snake Eyes: Ninja Force Origins. At this point, the best live-action representation of G.I. Joe is that series of commercials from the early-nineties.

GI Joe is a brand like Transformers. They use it to make people realize what it is. Without it people would think the movie is a reboot of a movie that came out in the 90's that starred Nick Cage. They would have thought Bumblebee without the transformers moniker out front and not seeing a trailer would have thought it was a documentary about a flying insect that stings.

It seems to be following the Ninja aspects of Larry Hama's comics very closely, including Tommy bringing Snake Eyes to Japan, the Morning Light sword, blind master, etc. Larry Hama's comics are my preferred Joe canon, so this movie does indeed look like Joe to me. I also really like how in all the interviews Henry Golding stresses how important Larry is to the brand and how he wants to do him justice.
