I really couldn't care less. It will make it's money and a sequel will be made. Accept it and move along.

I can't speak for others, but I know that I don't wish G.I. Joe to fail. This is me just trying to be honest about what might happen and what to expect. Just like reporting the news except it's box office numbers. I may be totally wrong and maybe audience attendance will jump the 2nd week or not drop off more that 25-30%.
This is all speculation and I for one appreciate the dialogue so far. I think everyone's input has been great!

Given that it didn't have as monstrous an opening as other blockbusters, which tend to suffer the more dramatic 55%+ drop-offs in their second week, I'm inclined to think Joe's will be in the 40-45% range.

A 50-60% drop off is fairly standard for the big summer movie. Anything smaller than that would be indicative of something that did well with both the critics and the audiences, like Star Trek or last year's Iron Man. That wasn't RoC. 25% drops are for movies that start out small but get good word of mouth, like The Hangover.
I'd look to RoC to follow the pattern as Watchmen, which opened similarly at $55 million, but had a Saturday drop. A Saturday drop is indicative of bad word of mouth or that a movie was front-loaded and has a limited fanbase that went to see the movie the opening night. Watchmen had a 67% drop the second weekend. I don't think it will do that badly, but I think it will be in the 60s range. |

Well, looks like it's almost a 60% drop-off. At least it's almost over $100,000,000 total for domestic box office.

While I enjoyed the heck out of the film, the common consensus is that G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is big, dumb fun but hardly great. At its current rate, unless word of mouth improves, it will certainly not beat T2:RotF. Perhaps the G.I. Joe sequel will fare better. Until then, let's play a guessing game.
How much percent do you think the audience drop off will be for the 2nd weekend? And do you think G.I. Joe will stay at #1? I say audience drop-off will be around 46% but G.I. Joe will stick it at #1. Remember, District 9 opens up on Friday August 14 and may eat away at audiences. You can track the movie's progress at Daily Box Office Results Index |
