i more meant the combo of that and District 9 will potentially eat into Joe. Different audience and all, but Husbands and Boyfriends do get drug to these things (i actually think it looks like a cool movie)

I see ROC falling about 49%. It may hold the top spot, but if so, will be just barely.

Rottentomatoes.com: The "RT Community" folks, who are just the user-generated portion of the site currently have it rated at 62%. 587 positive to 349 negative, with an average rating of 6.0/10.
Movietickets.com: 270 out of 330 (82%) would recommend this movie to others. Fandango.com: Currently has it rated as a "Go" (Second highest rating) with 668 ratings. Box Office Mojo: 336 people gave it an A or a B, compared to 249 giving it a D or F, with 41 Cs (Neutral). Even if you add the Cs to the negative pile the positives still outnumber them. Might want to double check your arithmetic next time. Yahoo Movies: Users give it an overall rating of "B" out of 4603 votes. I dunno what school you went to, but B is usually considered "above average". Are you even looking at these sites you listed? People who went to see it over 25? How many preteens do you see writing reviews on movie websites or answering internet polls? So I ask you again: Where is this overwhelmingly bad word of mouth you speak of? Since you either didn't add right or didn't actually look at the websites you listed as "User generated" before you claimed that "Don't like it" folks outnumbered the "did like it" folks. I give it another week @ #1. If Dis 9 was PG13 I would say differently but that is not the case. |

yo all i know is , me an my buddy an his son, which is my lil cousin an he told me during the movie, this movie is awesome. now as for me, i thought it was a good movie, but i know the history, an my lil buddy dont. so there i have to swallow things that bothered me about the story line an the cast chosen, but as from a child that dont know, this movie was EXCELLENT. an at the end of the day, that's what this movie was marketed towards the kids, not us adults.
he asked me who my favorite character was in the movie, (now mind you on the way there, me an him were sayin' snake eyes was the dopest joe ever) but after the movie i said baroness she was so sexy.. so i asked him who's his was an he replied ripcord, an i knew that he would be the kids favorite, that's why he got that role. few weeks ago he didnt want nothing to do with ripcord, now after the movie we went to walmart an he grabbed him an it's now his favorite character lol. so from a adults point of veiw this movie could appear poor. but as for the kids, i can't see this not beeing a big seller period.. it's full of crap kids love, an that was their point. but who's to know where it will be next week. all i know my lil cousin, sams' nephews, an another tanker already said that the kids loved it, the more talk about it at summer camp an strolling through the neighborhood will get more kids to want to go see it. |

i say 50-65% drop off. to #2 as not much else coming out besides D9.
look at the drops from last weeks openers. Here are the top 10 films at the domestic box office, according to studio estimates and Hollywood.com: 1. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (Paramount/Spyglass): Opened to $56.2 million domestically and $44 million overseas. 2. "Julie & Julia" (Sony Pictures): $20.1 million on its first weekend. 3. "G-Force" (Disney): Down 44% on its third weekend to $9.8 million. Total ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada: $86.1 million. Not great given the $150-million production budget. 4. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (Warner Bros.): $8.9 million, a decline of 50% on its fourth weekend. Domestic total: $273.8 million. 5. "Funny People" (Universal/Sony/Relativity): A sharp drop of 65% on its second weekend to $7.9 million. Total domestic ticket sales: $40.4 million. 6. "The Ugly Truth" (Sony): Declined 47% to $7 million. Domestic gross to date: $69.1 million. 7. "A Perfect Getaway" (Universal/Rogue): Launched to $5.8 million. 8. "Aliens in the Attic" (Fox/New Regency): $4 million on its second weekend, down 50%. A weak $16.3 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales so far. 9. "Orphan" (Warner Bros./Dark Castle): Declined 50% on its third weekend to $3.7 million. Domestic total: $34.8 million. 10. "(500) Days of Summer" (Fox Searchlight): Earned $3.7 million as it expanded to 817 theaters. Total gross for the indie romantic comedy is now $12.3 million, making it the biggest limited release of the year so far. Last edited by xhairs; 08-10-2009 at 05:17 PM.. |

Never have I seen such hope for fail. Even when it has a huge opening, people are now salivating for a fat dropoff.
I want this movie to do well now just to spite those people. |

I know that I'm going to labeled a hater and burned at the stake but all of the word of mouth I've heard so far has been bad, really bad. I hope that I'm wrong but I expect a huge drop off in sales next weekend.
