Can someone explain the marketing scheme behind the ROC/Resolute lines because I for one cant think of any they could have miss handled it more than if Dick Chaney was pulling the trigger on a overunder shotgun!
Resolute was quitely leaked and three figures came out carded months ahead of its questionable untimely release on the net and finally to TV. And we also got a smashing 5 pack featuring four repaints of two Resolute figures already out carded and one repainted BAT. And now two months later....NOTHING....I am losing interest in the Resolute line due to freaking boredoom! Here is a though marketing smart guys, build up the cartoon with a huge line of toys at least two months ahead of release! And the release of the Resolute cartoon was so sketchy it was as if nobody knew their ass from a hole in the ground...is it here, is it there, when, where, what time...etc. STUPID! And now with ROC, the piss ants who do this for a living are making the same crap mistake. Give us new ROC figures two months prior to the movie, a small to medium line of main stream characters, then when the movie gets closer to dropping, dump the rest of the goods on us! Trailors for the movie now...MTV is spectacular network to advertise from. Next they'll be having Marlon do a guest spot on USA's Monday Night Raw. Uh, I am just fed up. Look Hasbro, our Walmart shelves are EMPTY. HAVE BEEN FOR MONTHS. Give us some new figures already and take your marketing strategies and stick them up your A-holes! WE WANT TOYS, WE WANT TOYS, WE WANT TOYS!!!!!!!!! The Doc has spoken

Sounds like The Doc needs to be patient and grow up. You'll get your fill of Joe figures (Resolute + ROC) soon enough.

I think he's got a point.
Why we should wait for the "oh surprise!" new figures? We already knew about resolute when the figures came up. We knew even more when resolute itself came up. The same can be said about RoC. We know of almost every charcter in the movie. I can understand that they're waiting, cos we know because we're informed and not the rest of the world, but what about the resolute, dammit? I am losing interest too. When the news arrived i was ready to buy something. As time passes, i wasted money in other stuff, and when all the s#!+ hit the market, i wouldn't have enough, and i'll have to pass on a lot of figures that i would have bought months ago.

Batman, Hulk, Indy, Iron Man, Transformers, you name it - their movie toys have been distributed months before their movies - why isn't this being done for G.I. Joe?!? For sure I thought we'd be seeing the first ROC wave at retail by now - but Canada is as always, bone dry when it comes to new Joe product.

If only Hasbro had a $150M movie coming out in a few months to support the toyline!

Boy, some short memories around here.
Hasbro DID plan on having more Resolute product out between Christmas and the arrival of the Movie product. They planned Waves 14-16...showed up in Wal-Mart's system and everything. We've seen carded samples of 14 and uncarded samples of (I believe) all the figures that were supposed to be in 15 and 16 (some of which are showing up in the 7-packs). There were comic-packs and vehicles planned too, but it all got dropped after the holidays. Clearly, something happened that made Hasbro unable to do this, and if you pay any attention, the answer is pretty clear: The retailers dumped the 25A line after Christmas (probably Wal-Mart specifically, and the others just followed suit) and have simply been trying to unload what they had left of the already-produced product rather than ordering more new product just prior to the movie launch (thus setting up a conflict within the brand that neither Hasbro nor the retailers want to see happen, or potentially leaving them with a bunch of older stuff on the shelves when the movie product strikes). Basically, I'm betting the scenario went down something like this: Summer '08 - Everything's trucking along fine. Hasbro's got waves 14-16 in development, along with the Diver-Duke/Lamprey comic pack and the Arctic Scarlett/Cobra Commander pack, and the Wave 5 vehicles (as well as the rumored-but-never-seen wave 6 vehicles) on the drawing board. Fall '08 - Wal-Mart (or the retailers in general) informs Hasbro that they will not be ordering any new vehicles, and will be dropping them from their plan-o-grams at most stores after Christmas. Wave 5 gets "cancelled" but is already far along in production. Early '09 - Seeing where the economy is, and gauging holiday sales, Wal-Mart (and/or the other retailers) tell Hasbro they're not buying any more figures after waves 12/13 and the Resolute packs, because they don't forsee themselves as being able to sell-through a bunch of new Joe product between Christmas and the movie release. Waves 14-16 get pulled even though Wave 14 has already reached "Carded sample" stage. Hasbro readjusts and creates the Cobra Island 7-packs to try to get as many of these figs out as they can, through whatever venue, most likely because a bunch of the figures have already had production runs. Toy Fair '09 - For one reason or another, interest in the Wave 5 vehicles kicks up again...at least enough to convince Hasbro to do a very odd limited run of them...unlikely that they will appear on retailer shelves though, at least in great numbers. And so on.... I don't know how many times it can possibly be repeated, but Hasbro doesn't operate in a vacuum. That can't just magically make toys appear on shelves if the retailers don't want to buy them. The industry doesn't work that way. Additionally, Hasbro generally has their movie product out about 1 month before the movie, which is exactly what they're doing here, too. Sometimes it's even closer, but 2 months in advance is pretty rare. I think someone's mind might be exaggerating the gap between toy release and movie release for a lot of those lines. ^^ Did ya'll hear that... it's that annoying sound of "listen to reason"!
Dude.. who cares about the facts... we just want some damn Joes on the shelf. Maybe we don't want to wait a month! Why do you think everyone is buying from China right now?? If we really wanted to wait... then we would go play in the streets until the date got here when the Movie Line hit the pegs! |

So you advocate being immature, impatient, ignorant crybabies over something that you, and probably not even Hasbro, can possibly change?
No wonder collectors have such a "stellar" reputation. |
