Characters That Comic Book Movies Got Wrong - Movies Feature at IGN

Cobra Commander is one of the easiest villains to adapt for movies in the history of ever.
All the wrong they did to the character took more effort than what they could have done to get him right. |

Look. Cobra Commander is one of the easiest villains to adapt for movies in the history of ever. Put him in a cool costume with enough touchstones from the cartoon/toy/comic to keep the fans happy, have him always jockeying with Destro for control and then shouting "RETREAAAAAT!!!" whenever the Joes fire their victory-tipped missiles at Cobra.
Rise of Cobra did the exact opposite of that. All the wrong they did to the character took more effort than what they could have done to get him right. Whoever thought an asthmatic, terribly-scarred Joseph Gordon-Levitt was a good idea convinced us that it would be a good idea to remove that person from the planet. ^^ pulled from the ign article |

Honestly I think that movie CC was adapted quite well. If he had been a completely useless idiotic leader just screwing things up, it would have been laughably bad. I think Duke was by far the worst adaptation in the movie. It wasn't just Tatum's terrible acting (which didn't help) it was the fact that he was nothing like Duke. Never in the movie did he ever show any leadership qualities at all.

Just making CC the brother of the Baroness was fail enough. JGL is a great actor too, what a waste.

The look of Cobra Commander I don't believe to be the easiest to adapt. I don't think it should be difficult, but definitely not the easiest. Why do fanatical fanboys insist that comic book characters should appear in film, exactly as they do in comics? I admit, the commander's look in ROC wasn't the best rendering, but then again, a mirror mask may not have look much better in film. Not too mention, because of Nolan's Batman, I prefer a brief story or background as to why the character chooses they're look. Joe fans already have an idea based on the Marvel run of the early comics. ROC attempted to explain that use of the mask (somewhat) and failed. |

Totally agreed. I didn't mind them losing her European heritage so much, but having all the central characters related to each other (friends, fiances, siblings) was overkill. |
