AR-15/M16.
It has better accuracy, range, and despite rumors, I've never had one jam or misfire. I have used a M16A2 in direct combat against enemies who were using the AK-47. The result, I'm able to post on a GI Joe message board. They are not. I stand by the AR-15/M16 platform. |

AR-15- its a much smoother action, and far more accurate. The only problem with the AR type rifles is that if you don't clean them religiously, you will get a jam or misfire. Also, I found them to be not as ergonomically comfortable as the AK, but I suppose you can customize that.
I do like the AK models because they are extremely reliable and at close range, they have a superior rate of fire. I find them to be lighter weight and very comfortable. The winner= AR-15 |

AK-47 is my choice.
I was shooting at 50 gallon steel drums, weighted at the bottom with cinder blocks, and empty spackling/paint buckets at 10-80 yards away. After 80 yards it was too dark out to be accurate anymore. Ammo sizes AR-15:5.56mm vs. AK-47:5.45mm I had no jamming probs with either weapon. The AK-47 takes a little while to get used to- to get precise with, but after that it just really devours anything and everything in it's path with pretty standard ammo and magazine and you adjust to the recoil after couple goes with it. The AR-15 is easy to shoot at first, instantly easy to handle, but while shooting with standard ammo with that weapon too, at the 50 gallon drum at 80 yards there were holes that looked like the AR-15 struggled a bit to get thru both sides of the drum-cleaner entries and exits. With the AK-47 all 50 gallon dead on through shots were massive destruction on entry and exit. I was surprised the AR-15 would ding off at 80 yards. I never would have thought that, EVER because of the way the gun is explained online and in tutorials- but it did. Like I said...in the end, I personally liked the AK-47, but both are excellent- both will also fire in various environments and climates (remember this is an AR-15, not an M16- so there is a difference) and one of those differences with the AR-15 to the M-16 is that it's stepped up in design to handle the rigors of harsh environments, just like the AK-47 always has. I think it comes down to a user ability, patience, user handling, and caliber. Both are great. But an Ak-47 is just a tad bit beefier and more destructive, although it takes longer to get the hang of. An AR-15 can be picked up and shot with ease on the first try- the AK-47 DEF cannot. |

Hate to break it to you, but the AK-47 fires a 7.62x39mm round.
The AK-74 fires a 5.45x39mm round. The AR-15 fires a 5.56x45mm round Last edited by CornDog_The_Ninja; 03-24-2010 at 02:34 AM.. |

well, after time in our Military I really love the M-16A2/M203 combo. Also, what AK you are using also makes a difference. Russian or Chinese. The Russian weapons are far more reliable and made of higher quality parts. The M-16/AR-15/M-4 I believe are just better all around weapons, easier to bring on target and return to target. Besides add a grenade launcher and all of your not punching through the drums is a thing of the past., there no drums, lol.

I'm no expert but, I've never heard of an AK-47 firing anything other than a 7.62 round and other than your source, haven't ever seen anything stating otherwise.
On the other hand, the AK-74 does fire a 5.45 round. But it's your thread. This is from your link... General AK-47 Information Caliber 7.62x39 mm Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt with 2 lugs Overall length: 870 mm Barrel length: 415 mm Weight: 4,300 g with empty magazine, 4,876 g loaded Magazine capacity 30 rds (40 rds box magazines and 75 rds drums) Sighting range, m: 800 Cyclic rate of fire 600 rds/min Practical rate of fire, single shots 90-100 rds/min; bursts 400 rds/min Muzzle velocity: 780 m/s Last edited by CornDog_The_Ninja; 03-24-2010 at 02:49 AM.. |
