Firefly - The first grey one.
Zartan - Swamp skier one (although the skier was lame) despite the whole belly-shirt armor thing. Storm Shadow - While I've always liked the good guy came suit, Storm Shadow has to be the basic white ninja version. Snake Eyes - Commando Beach Head - Comic pack version |

I was close to saying Resolute, but really I would take a 25th line over it if I was truly honest with myself. Even so, 2010's PoC and Resolute is going to be a great year for collecting.

Basically, my criteria for a good modern era update of a toy is that changes are made in terms of the detail and the realism of the gear, costume, and weapons, but the changes aren't so sweeping that the toy loses all connection to the original in terms of aesthetics (unless the original ARAH design is just horrible or unworkable to start with). The 2009 Defense of Cobra Island set Alley-Viper, Lamprey, and Range-Viper come to mind as examples of this approach working real well. I'm totally open to radically different takes on the characters, but they have to be really well done to make me a fan (some of the upcoming PoC figures look like they'll fall into that category, but I'll need to see them in hand before forming a firm opinion about them). |

for me it is a tie with 25th/me & resolute but res had to get my vote as i think it was the best blend between the old and new look for joe. it would of been a killer line if roc didnt come along. it had so much potential to be the new face of joe.
as far as looks go my customs lol. its hard to say there have been some killer takes on all of them!! and some that just sucked. Last edited by xhairs; 02-14-2010 at 05:48 PM.. |

To me, the original 82 to 94 is the real continuity, so that means the 25th line is the faithful and true. I know a lot guys like resolute and it was cool that joe finally got a live action movie, but for me re-imaginings and reboots miss the mark, the mark being the 82 to 94 line up from my childhood. I realize the 80's cartoon and comic had some differences in continuity, but I consider them both valid and figures based on the two are great. Everything else is something different, not the joe I know and love.

awesome good to hear your opinions I still dont know, its all so confusing with the different iterations and re-hashings of the same characters. my favorites are
Zartan with swamp skier (mainly because you can switch heads without it being a problem) but i do like the poc. i dont like the resolute version firefly- this is tough im going with poc though, dont like the legs and feet on the resolute storm shadow- POC urban camo version with double uzis (not shown at toyfare) snake eyes- city strike (RoC?) beach head - im going with the cp/hoh version? but the new PoC one is great he doesnt scream beachhead to me. however i do like that he comes with a SCAR-L |

Except that Zartan, even when i like the design, i absolutely loathe the sculpt. I only like the Desert PoC zartan, but hate every other incarnation, including the vintage and Resolute version. PoC Beachhead might be my default fig. As for which is the true line...well, all are Gi Joe. There's no true or false, just the ones you choose. Personally, aside of the ORIGINAL 12"vers which i don't know, i like almost all the lines. Some concepts i don't like (hybrids from Venom) but the figures are still good. I have to like RoC, it has ALL the other lines have, and PoC is looking great, by starting a new take.

Resolute is the spring board future for me for new life in my toy collection for new figures/vehciles and looks, where 25th is the base of all my figures to repelcae my nostalgia of all my original joes that are long lost, broken or forgotten.
