Yes, they were terrible figures but it got Joe to return to the mainstream..even more so in Spytroops with the sturdy, realistic vehicles which got my interest then it took off with the overwhelming epic Valor VS Venom were there was so much to buy

I actually like some of the designs from that era a lot. Translating those designs into those plastic figures was done generally quite poorly, but there was some cool shit in the package art.

This is the line that drew me back into toy collecting. Some good memories for me when it comes to this line

A cartoon, similar to the He-Man one from that period, would've been preferable to those crappy straight-to-DVD movies.

When I saw the name of this thread I thought sure the OP would be my old pal Smoke.

AS for the rest of you, I actually love all the push-back. I have a lot of issues with that era, but I appreciate that a lot of fans had a very different experience of it. (Some were even born of it, which is awesome!) Thanks for hearing and countering my own personal shitty take on that era. I very much appreciate your perspectives.

New Sculpt 2005 and 2006 figures got better, interesting to consider how it might have progressed. Early 25th Anniversary was perhaps a step down.
I'm not locked into any era or scale. I like a thoughtful blend of progression and classic callback. And fun.

Unfortunately, new sculpt got scrapped right when they were hitting their stride, with SE v23, Gung Ho v16, Grand Slam v3, Torch v2, Bombstrike, Snow Wolf, Med Alert... so many great designs; new characters and reimagined old favorites that hold up next to the very best of the ARAH era. I often wonder how the line might have evolved had they not started from scratch for the 25th anniversary.

I still have the entire first wave of Joe vs Cobra in storage at my parent's house... figures and vehicles. I thought they looked pretty good and much sturdier than the ARAH stuff. I have nostalgia for the O-ring era, but the construction of those figures was pretty shoddy... the O-rings snapped too easily and the thumbs and crotch pieces broke all the damn time. I still have most of my ARAH figures, also in storage at my parent's house, and the majority of them are missing thumbs, crotches, O-rings, or all three.
