Firefly's background and training. I love the ninja stuff but I didn't care for him being a part of that. Seems like making Leia related to Luke. It was easy and convenient to just use someone established instead of creating a new character.
I did like the whole "French plantation person trained by a WW2 Japanese ninja" angle, but just not for him. A new character and figure would have been cool but I guess they needed to do something to hype Firefly's green outfit. |

There?s so much substance to firefly To also have minimal information My reimagining of Firefly is he is IRA.

I feel like Firefly should remain shrouded in mystery, and any story about his background is fake info put out there by Firefly himself so no one can make sense of his mythology. Sort of like Rick Sanchez.

I love these takes so much. Five-star thread.
Weirdness in the comics/cartoon lore doesn't really get me since it only informs my own little joeverse. The stuff I get stuck on is certain cosmetic inconsistencies (like Hawk's hair as pointed out by HHFF). This is why my single biggest gripe might be the class of 1991 which featured new versions of Low Light, Dusty, and Grunt, none of which looked anything like their prior figures. My pet theory is that they were going to be new characters until LH complained that he needed a break from introducing new characters to the comics and coming up with all-new bios for the filecards.

I always wanted them to explore the DESTRO/LADY JAYE family thing more. I always still kind of mix that into my headcannon when I am "posing and taking pics" of my figures.

On that note, I got super-excited last week to read that "Heat" is getting a prequel / sequel novel, and I can't wait to read it, but I don't want any of those characters "spoiled". But the upside is that Michael Mann himself is writing it, so I'm confident he "won't pull a Lucas". As for Firefly, in my head-canon as a kid, he was from the Deep South and had a Cajun accent, and knew Copperhead. He was in the US Army in Vietnam (some kind of Engineer, didn't know much about all that in 5th grade) and became a mercenary after the war. And Cobra Commander NEVER belittled him or called him a fool, maybe that came from how CC treated Storm Shadow in the Marvel Comic. He was careful about what he said around him. It would be like if we asked for a new GI Joe series, and when they gave it to us, Cobra Commander took his hood off and became an opera singer. |

It's the "Boba Fett Syndrome". Fans think they want MOAR MOAR MOAR until they get it, and it's not the same, or doesn't live up to their preconceived notions.

I always considered Firefly a contractor- not really a member of Cobra. But yeah, I like that everyone would be nervous around him.
