So being the comic book fan that i am I made my annual trip to Philadelphia to the Wizard World Comic Con.
A huge highlight of the day for me was meeting a number of famous people including Tom Savini (Night of the Living Dead, From Dusk til Dawn, Planet terror) Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Genreation) and Snake Eyes--Ray Park! I attended his hour long question and answer panel where I discovered him to be a really cool guy. Very down to earth, not "hollywood" at all, and a huge freakin fanboy! He buys tons of toys just like all of us! He got into martial arts because he loved Bruce Lee and Jacki Chan and when he saw Empire Strikes Back, particularly the scene with Yoda trainng Luke, that was when he made the movie industry his ambition. He talked about the work he did on the Matrix, the awesomeness of getting to be IN a Star Wars movie, making Toad from X-Men a real badass and fulfilling a dream of getting to play Snake Eyes, a part he actively sought and actually did handstands and flips in his parents house when he got the phone call that the part was his. Of Special not to us Joe fans: He could not reveal a lot about the movie, but he assured us Snake Eyes is being treated correctly and that we would all be happy with the way the character is done. From the way he talked Snake Eyes remains silent. I have been very skeptical about Rise of Cobra but after talking to him and seeing his enthusiasm fro the role I am changing my mind. I was able to talk with him one on one for just a few minutes and got him to autograph a Darth Maul figure for me. All in all he was a great guy and a highlight of the day for me. |

That's awesome man, I got to meet him last year at SDCC and saw him again at Emerald City Comicon. Both times he was the nicest guy. When guys like that act like they do it makes the shows for me.

Damn you Blue. I hope you got some pics! I guess I need to start paying more attention to Cons in Texas. Maybe I can catch someone really cool and famous like Ray Park!

I got pics with Ray Park and Marina Sirtis.
I also met a fellow Hisstanker there. She is new to the tank. She had on one of the most awesome Baroness outfits I have ever seen! |

Great to hear that he's a cool guy. He's been a part of so many cool modern films.
I as him there today, but didn't wait in line and didn't want to pay for authographs, but it was a really great line-up of geek stars this year and it was fun to see them all. Fun fact: I was never much of a fan of Counselor Troi on Star Trek TNG, and didn't even find her very attractive on the show, which is saying a lot since I was a hormonally charged teenager at the time. But, seeing Marina Sirtis in person, she is really more beautiful in person now than she was on television 15-20 years ago. The whole con was much more comfortable than previous years to me for some reason. Not so sweaty and smelly. Kind of regret passing up SDCC Cobra Commanders I saw for $40 now that I'm home |
