Check this out...
Over the years, like Scooby Doo, GI Joe has had it's share of cross over characters. People that "made the grade" so to speak, and had their shot at being part of the elite counter terrorism unit known as GI Joe! We've seen Sgt. Slaughter rip the head off of some B.A.T.s with his bare hands. The Fridge swing swing to chain with a football at the end of it at some undeserving Cobra soldiers. We've seen the World Warriors of Street Fighter cross ranks and for some unknown reason Dhalsim kick Duke in the face! Now, with a Modern Era upon us. I ask you who in today's pop culture of characters and icons would you feel have what it takes in GI Joe. My first picks, will be Rios and Salem from Army of Two. While not and avid fan of the product, I think they would fit in nice. (Marketed as Two Pack of course!) |

I'd set GI Joe in the future & have Ghost in the Shell crossovers.
Others that have/could work well are: C.O.P.S. M.A.S.K. Transformers Centurions

Ah Ghost in the Shell, the only anime I can tolerate.
I don't think we need cross over lines. Like Marvel Universe and the like, figures set in the roughyl 1:18 scale do just fine so long as they adapt to a decent articulation. |

As far as similar iconic figures of the same caliber as the Sarge and the Fridge (weren't the 80's awesome?), I think Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson would be a good fit. I don't really follow wrestling, but he had a good following a few years ago and he's done some decent movies as well as some kid movies, so I think he'd be a good fit to market in a toy line.

You could do a GitS story with GI Joe and say Cobra had started using cyber terrorism on a mass scale in an effort to further their goals. You could even do it as if Cobra has attack Japan and stolen some high technology and Sector 9 partners with the Joes in an effort to stop them...set in the future of course.

Ahhhh. The Rock. Yeah, I can see where you're going with that. Like how I don't care for the Army of Two game, I think they would fit the line nicely. The Rock would be a nice add. What makes it worst is he's not a wrestler at all anymore but you mentioning him being in Kid's movies makes him an even better fit. Good call!

I'm more of a fan of the isolated universe. Transformers, Sarge and the Fridge wern't the best for Joe.
If we had to have any of them, Transformers was the way to go. The Megatron green and blue tank, he got the very best of the Techno Vipers. Extreme Makeover Megatron Edition.
