I really wish GI Joe was more like He-Man where almost every single figure uses the exact same body with just minor changes. And I wish GI joes were as easy to find as just logging in at exactly the right time to get them, unless of course, it's one of those figures that they don't let you buy unless you commit (blindly) to buying every single thing they sell that year.
And Turtles are eve better! I really wish every single Joe villain only had five points of articulation and paint only on the front of the toy. And I wish the only thing I saw at stores was the main characters, and not any of the supporting characters. And I wish that they rereleased the same main character toys in every single wave.

But as to the OP's post...I still don't get why the line is "disappointing", and am only further confused by using such EXTREME examples of lines for comparison. If GI Joe disappoints, it's because it is trying so hard to straddle the line between the niche, collector-oriented and not-mass retail MOTU line, and the very mass retail, kid-oriented TMNT line. They succeed largely because they know who is buying, how they are buying and tailer to that demographic. GI Joe, conversely, is trying to hit MULTIPLE demographics with a single product.

All i see is complaining. I don't see any examples of what is disappointing about the figures we got. I'm 90% pleased with what we got. but, I will add The ultimate duke is disappointing. :( to think I got 8 of these things as troop builders and it can't hold the weapons properly.

Where are MOTU figures available in stores? I wouldve liked to have collected the line but they're a fortune catered to adult collectors and mainly internet based ordering. That 2002 cartoon all the same lousy figures pe warmed (was one He-Man after the other on the racks and one Skeletor or Ram Man back to back to back ect)and all the good characters where never seen in stores.
Operation Hiss wouldve been a good cartoon vehicle to lead up to each movie sorta like Clone Wars filled the gap and now Rebellion will do. I dont really know why Operation Hiss was not given a large budget but I have to say I liked it and they were only like 3 minutes long or something and made ROC sorta rewatchable while it also had elements some Marvel and Sunbow homages. Instead of trying to fix some of the bad issues with ROC they created Renegades( a so-so series but following an alternate reality ROC continuity). |

The main difference of the lines seems that Matty does it's best to make sure their product is the best it can be, the first time around. They really have to when selling a $25 per figure line. Hasbro on the other hand, is content with giving us shit like Retaliation w1 Duke and w2 Colton, and a lame versions of SE, SS, and CC in every wave. When retailers decide not to order the shit any more is when they decide to start making good product that we might want to buy. Matty at least tries to give it's consumer base what it wants where Hasbro shows us great product they have locked away in a "vault" and tells us what doesn't sell. As for (Nick) TMNT, I don't know those are great sculpts. They're not bad, but I wouldn't compare them to what Hasbro can do. The Classics were pretty good though. Seems like some lame Hasbro-type shit being there's no Shredder, Splinter, or April for that line over a year later...

I collect MOTUC, TMNT, Figuarts, Play arts Kai, and other lines besides G.I. Joe, and I pay close attention to the sculpting, detail, articulation and playability. In my opinion, G.I. Joe is still consistently the best action figure on the market. The sculpts we got in PoC and 30th are amazing. The detail blows away almost anything out there, except maybe a few $70 per figure toy lines. And G.I. Joe does this at $10 a piece, compared to other lines that charge double or more.
As far as characters, other toy lines don't have over 200 characters that need to be addressed, and most of them in multiple versions. We've gotten almost all of ARAH, and quite a few figures from other eras. We even got comic and Resolute characters. Meanwhile, the Club's FSS and con sets take care of many of the figures that Hasbro won't or can't make. Distribution is terrible, and I mean terrible, but I blame retailers for clogging pegs with early waves, and ordering low quantities of later waves, if at all. |
