I don't follow the games, so I had no idea what to compare it too. But the shot of her ship landing in Times Square amongst the skeletal remains of all those people was super cool. The later scenes of those space ships landing, docking, fueling etc was fantastic, it was almost real. Yeah, the story was a bit funky... but I enjoyed it.

oh im not saying it was a horrible film...just not final fantasy. that and all the cool marines gettin' offed sucked. I mean at least let poor Steve Buscemi's character live.

CGI is both liberating and limiting at the same time:
Liberating in terms of scope, scale, and what you can pull off. Limiting in cost, time, and a huge chunk of the potential audience writing it off as "kid's stuff" without giving it a chance. While there's definitely merit to G.I. Joe being thought of as kid's stuff again, it would likely not bode well for its' box office returns. Generally "serious" CGI movies tend not to do super-well. Heck, even segments of the fandom would freak out if it were a PG rated "cartoon" movie. |

I don't think it has to be CGI, but giving G.I. Joe the Avatar treatment could be a way to get some of the classic vehicles into the franchise.
