I was purposefully forgetting those...Though I just noticed how creepy that Zartan figure actually looks!

This is almost too hard to narrow down. I will stick to the ARAH years. Obviously many jump out as being awesome and just classic. And truth be told the card art help to sell the figures. Some of my favorites were 1984 Roadblock, 84 Baroness, 84 Firefly, 84 Storm Shadow, 82 Cobra Trooper( look at those eyes ), 83 Destro, 85 Snake Eyes, 85 Flint, etc. One that I never cared for was the 1987 Raptor.
The biggest glaring problem with Retaliation figures is the lack of card art. At least ROC had nice artwork on the packages. The great looking "ultimate" SE that we saw at the con is going to be lessened imho due to the lack of card art. That is what really captivated my interest as a kid. You would go down the isle at the store and say wow! It is something the Hasbro folks have really lost sight of. POC art was nice, 30th very nice, Retaliation is nothing? Who's decision was that? |

Favorite: 88 Budo, 87 outback and 88 storm shadow
Least: retaliation also, I love the box art for some vehicles like battle barge, bugg and hammerhead....awesome colors. Dreadnok ground assault is pretty cool as well

Sneak Peek would be my first, from his chubby baby Gerber face to the stupid flashlight accessory.
When I bought him as a kid I almost never liked playing with it. |

Hard to pick a fav. I have always loved the card art, even ROC.
One of the ones I hated (figure & art) back in the day was Psyche-out. He had stupid shit all over him, a stupid face and a boy band hair cut. |

Reviving this thread because its a great topic....
That being said I would have to say my favorite card art is the sdcc suited cobra commander. He looks so sinister with his hand in the air showing the devotion hes putting into his speech and cause, and his other hand firmly gripping the podium, and I love the evil look in his eyes... amazing. I see that theres a lot of posts about the arah sneak peak card art and I'm gonna have to agree. He looks like a fatty baby face.... never understood that one as a kid either but I did like the figure. |

I'm still partial to the first five years or so. There's just so many unforgettable classics in there, 1982 Cobra and Grunt just epitomized the two sides of the fight. 1982 Scarlett is gorgeous, 1982 Snow Job looks amazing, 1984 Mutt and Junkyard looks intimidating as hell. Firefly looks like a devious bastard. There's just so much good characterization in each picture, perfectly rendered.
Hopefully by now you've all seen my page dedicated to the beauty of ARAH card art. If not, enjoy! The G.I. Joe Yearbook: A Visual Index of Carded Figures - 3DJOES I've covered 1982-1992 on this page and will eventually add 1993-1994. |

1984 Storm Shadow was just so iconic to me as a kid, and only because I saw him once on a peg and missed out on getting him. I really disliked the 1983 Cobra Commander card art because I thought his fighting stance looked like a 70's dance move.
