We moved to Pakistan last August with nine suitcases full of clothes and other necessities.
Half of one of those suitcases was full of the real necessities: My toy hobby has gotten strange these past few years. I spend hundreds of dollars on toys every summer while I'm back in the States, but then I spend the rest of the year in places where toys aren't available, so I have to do a lot of planning ahead and a lot of window shopping and vicarious geeking out through reviews at Generals Joes and Alexx's reviews at Joe Battlelines and threads like "Fun with Zombie Viper" and whatnot. If I come across a great sale online or I worry that a figure or a wave will be scarce by the time I'm in the States again, I'll order it online and have it shipped to my dad's for safekeeping. And then, once a year or so, I ask him to open all the Joes and repack them and send 'em here for me so I have something new to photograph for the first time in five or six months. Shipping's a killer, but it's worth it after such a wait. That time is here again. In two weeks or so, I should have 30 or so Indiana Jones figures and a crap-ton of Joes. (I had him check to make sure my Sci-Fi showed up, since some people have reported that he's occasionally replaced with an extra Steel Brigade figure in that wave and I got a second PoC Beachhead figure in place of my much-desired Shadow Tracker last year). Last year I did this twice; my father-in-law Bill agreed to open and repack and send me an assortment of goodies from Big Bad Toy Store. I give you Bill Bad Toy Store: Now that the Dreadnoks and Marauders have arrived, I turned off Pile of Loot and warned my dad that shit was about to get real. I got an e-mail from him this morning. All it read is "Will this cure erectile dysfunction?" Here's the attachment: Most of that he'll be holding onto until I see him in June or July, of course. (I purchased all the random old McFarlane crap on eBay just 'cause I thought they'd look cool alongside Joes in some outdoor photos). He doesn't know the first thing about G.I.Joe, but he's got a good head for it; I told him to just toss all the packaging, and regarding the SDCC Destro set, he wrote, "The McCullen Clan family action figures came in a really nice box. Are you sure you want to take them out of the box and ship them?" When I asked him to check that Sci-Fi was there (I just attached a photo of the figure), he wrote, "Would the action figure in question be a GI Joe named Seymour, Elite Combat Trooper? If so, he is in my possession. Love, dad By the way, you are one strange individual." Ha ha ha, I haven't looked at Sci-Fi's file card since the vintage days, so I had no idea what he was talking about until I googled "g.i. joe sci-fi file card". So far I've had great luck with international shipping, but I'm going to be decidedly anxious for the next two weeks or so! |

I was in Iraq last year, and my 2-week vacation stateside was spent with my wife and daughter, perforated by stops at every Toys'R'Us, Walmart & Target we passed. I got everyone from the first two waves of POC (including Spririt & Quick-Kick) except for Snow Job, which I recently acquired. I can relate.

clothes?? we were born naked, adam and eve were naked, clothes are meaningless, they are something a human had made up for the cold. i say, as when it comes to toys, the kids can go naked. hell i haven't worn clothes since i found out joes were back out in 08, i couldnt afford to buy both, so i kissed clothes good bye.. when i go to work, i just put some animal skin loin cloth accross my crotch an yell OOOOHHHHH UH AH OHHHHHHHH and beat on my chest on the way out the door, it's only natural..
