How much do you spend on your Joe collection and/or your toy collection in general?
Also, how much would you like to be able to spend? Obviously, the knee-jerk response to the latter is "Millions!" or whatever, but I'm not so sure. For the past few years, my wife and I have each had a buy-whatever-nonsense-you-want allowance of $100 per month. Starting next month, we're increasing it to $150 per month, but we've agreed to not even discuss another increase for two years. We'd have had to've abandoned even the $100 a month if we hadn't gone abroad. Hell, the way they're laying off teachers in the States, we'd be living with my father-in-law or something if we hadn't gone abroad. Anyhoo... Do I wish I could casually buy a Terror Drome and a Defiant, and impulsively buy an entire Bravestarr collection whenever I'm feeling nostalgic, or decide that I do want to collect Masters of the Universe Classics after all and then simply decide to do so without having to stop collecting Joes and/or sell all my Joes just to make it viable? Sure. But ultimately, I'm not sure I'd enjoy the hobby as much as I do. $150 a month to spend on children's playthings is obviously an absurd luxury. But even so, I have to do a lot of planning to get (mostly) everything I (really, really) want, and even then I'm also selling lots of unused fodder two or three times a year to supplement my allowance. I have to plan and prioritize and go without certain figures (and go without all series except Joe, for the most part)... and I think the hobby provides me with a richer experience this way. So much of my hobby time is spent simply "window shopping" via Justin Bell's reviews and Alexx's reviews; if I could spend hundreds or thousands of dollars every month, it would never have occurred to me to seek out reviews of figures, 'cause I'd just buy anything I was remotely interested in... and then my collection would be huge and all-consuming and difficult to manage and tiresome and I'd probably sell it all and stop collecting altogether. ...which is not to say I wouldn't like a bit more spending money, heh-heh. I think what'd be perfect for me is $200-$300 a month (I feel obscene suggesting that much), plus maybe a "bonus" of a couple-few hundred bucks once or twice a year for expensive items like the Hot Toys Michael Keaton Batman or the G.I.Joe Collector Club subscription or a vintage Terror Drome or what have you. On the other hand, one grows into whatever money one has, and if I had $300 a month at my disposal, I'm sure I'd spend it quickly and quietly yearn for even more... How about you? How much do you spend? How much would you like to spend? |

not really on a monthly basis. I spend when I find something i like. I spend when items go on clearance.
when I am on a spending spree it could be $500~$800 in one month. while other times it could be $0 for the whole month. since I feel a little burnt out and lack of space in my house right now, only spent $15 last month and so far $0 in December.

I'm ordering many things on a monthly basis through BBTS and eBay this year, but over the last two years I mostly saved up my monthly funds and then went nuts during our summer trips home to the States. Dropping $900 on toys over the course of five or six weeks is a heady thrill. |

I have me and my son, so it really depends some months on what he wants, and what I want. I usually earmark (after savings, bills, etc) about 300 a month for toy money.

I also have a $100 a month rule. Sadly this rule is usually broken 2-3 times over every month. The Matty bill alone is $48 err month.

After planned and misc. expenses I save my money and then, if something of interest comes up I can purchase it without much hesitation or limit as I know all other responsibilities are met.

Part of the problem is that I told myself I wouldn't purchase PoC and Renegades and ended up doing it anyway. So, for 2012...I'll need to re-focus on things, probably shorten my budget and get back on that Dave Ramsey path (for those who know what I'm talking about).

I really don't know as I don't have a defined budget. Some months zero, but other months a lot. I would guess I average no more than $50 per month ($600/year). What can't you get with a $150 monthly amount? Seems like you could get everything new and pick up vintage, too.
