For the Joes I'd pick Cover Girl. I know she was former model turned tank jockey ....but it would have been nice to know more about her especially one of the under used female Joes that became more of a background character as the series went on.
Cobra side I would've like to have known more about the Interrogator . I didn't even really know who this guy was until a few weeks ago I never watched any of DIC cartoon. His file card sounds interesting. I would've like to have known more about him.

Hard for me to pick any Cobras off the top of my head, but for the Joes:
Mercer-not one of my top faves, but he certainly had a lot of potential. The only Viper to defect, he's hated by Cobra, and many Joes don't trust him. Torpedo-the first SEAL on the team. He sounds like a bad ass in his filecard, I'd love to see him do more missions out of the water minus his wet suit, flippers, and speargun. Falcon-much maligned due to his appearances in the '87 movie and the DIC cartoon, he never got used much in the comics. Always felt that he was the opposite of Flint-less book smart, more practical experience, and not as cocky. Would love to see him do more behind the lines stuff. Lifeline-one of my favorite characters, and another one who hasn't gotten a lot love thanks to the 'toon. However, it could be interesting to play up the pacifist angle-why does a person like that join an elite combat team? Or, go the opposite way and make him a man who has to take lives to save them. |

FALCON!!!!! That dude got really NO LOVE in either the toon or the comic save for his leading stint in the animated joe movie.
And Captain Claymore...that guy despite wearign yellow camo just was so distinct and kinda cool.

While part of me would love to see Firefly's origin, they'd probably screw it up again. Wild Weasel, I know we know his origin, but I bet there are TONS of awesome stories there. Same with Major Bludd. Copperhead, always a cool character and I bet he's got some interesting stories to tell.
I'd also like to see them start doing the "Clone Wars" thing and naming some of the Cobra Troops and Officers, and give us a peak at who is the Cobra rank and file. Not the half assed version Brooks did, give us a group of Cobra's to follow. A team of Snow Serpents. A squad of blueshirts with their officer. A Stinger Driver, HISS tank commander, ect. Let us see them here and there and get to know them over time. Some Crimson Guardsmen, their cover lives, and flashbacks and memories to who they were before. I'm interested in who the Cobras are. Would love to see a comic book dedicated to this - think of it as a sort of Special Missions - Cobra. What does it really take to make it through Alley Viper selection and training, and what kind of people make it through? Let's follow a squad of Snow Serpents sent on a patrol to the Arctic Circle somewhere. What is the interaction like between the various Viper classes - do the Frag Vipers and SAW Vipers regard each other as co-dependent buddies or as rivals? What's it like being on the front line knowing that your flank is being secured by a BAT platoon? The possibilities are endless - they could do a whole story arc about the CGs. |

There are lots of Joes we just didn't see much of. In some cases, I like Joes a lot just because they looked badass - they never got much face time at all in the comic. There are also Joes that did get their fair share of facetime, but never developed much of a personality or a back story.
Leatherneck was mentioned - I think his personality is basically a tough, aggressive, uncharismatic, but fundamentally dependable soldier. Not the guy you want to hang with on R&R but certainly someone you wouldn't mind covering you. I'd like to have seen a little more personality and/or back story given to Tunnel Rat, Shockwave, Big Ben, and Falcon. Those are just personal faves of mine. And as I said elswhere I think a dark adult-themed like the recent IDW ones could do a lot with Psyche Out. Not his bacjground so much as just using him as a narrator or plot driver. And there's always Mercer of course. He deserves his own 4 issue story arc. On the Cobra side, I'd like to learn more about Buzzer's background - lots of the Dreadnoks come across as buffoons, but he seems genuinely mentally disturbed. Like "intelligent, calculating cop-dodging serial killer evil." I think it would be interesting to see more of Wild Weasel and Scrap Iron - a back story on guys like this would give some sense of what kinds of military backgrounds Cobra agents come from. I like Firefly being a shady character, like Boba Fett, it is his mystery that makes him fascinating. |
