Maybe this has been answered, maybe it hasn't, so here I go:
Why is Heavy Duty used so frequently now and not Roadblock? I'm a kid of the eighties and I know first hand that Roadblock was a popular, well loved character. Anybody have an answer? |

WTH are you talking?
Roadblock has a figure for every incarnation of GI Joe. Even there's a RoC Roadblock. HD was only taken as main character on RoC.

i see what you mean about roadblock. yeah, he had a roc figure, but really it was just a resolute repaint(or the other way around). what gets me, is in the idw gijoe comic line, even tho the character looks, speaks, acts, and has the same gear layout as roadblock, hes called heavy duty. whats the deal with that?

Hasbro said something about the name Roadblock wasn't so marketable in movies, so they just made him Heavy Duty.

I wondered the exact same thing. I'm at the point though with IDW that when I read "Heavy Duty" I automatically replace it with "Roadblock."

I would be all for more of our Machine Gunners. Roadblock and Rock n Roll could use some updating. (would still love to see RnR V.2 though)

Something to do with his name? It was something like that in RoC, yet they still released him (kinda rushed and shady release, true)
In any case it's just the name, seems like the character is the same.

Well if they had given him a new name maybe. But they gave him someone else's name. In essence they killed the man who was once called Heavy Duty just like they did with the man once called Ripcord....

My son's favorite Renegades characters are Roadblock and Snake Eyes. I was really looking forward to buying him a Renegades Roadblock figure, but with the hiatus, who knows?
