I have to say this is probably the first time I encounter such a behavior from a seller. I use ebay since 2004, and during almost a decade the ebay.com version of it with multiple buys from US.
Now, many sellers list items without the option to ship abroad or say they don't sell internationally but my experience tells me that is not always the case, sometimes they decide to do it in the end for whatever reason. I also (more frequently now) sometimes ask if a price is negotiable or if he/she would consider offers even if no "best offer" option is available. On ebay UK there is even an option for that when contacting buyers. I don't see any arm in doing that, I also sell and received similar approaches in the past. Now these guys "pattysplace1st" went crazy with this. I will not be posting here the exact message exchange for obvious reasons, but to make the story short, I was interested in one hiss tank v5. As some of you may know this vehicle was issued in brown and black colors in 2010 but if the box is sealed there is no way to tell what's inside. Boxes are exactly the same, even the driver is the exact same. The only way is to check an engraved code on the box. Now I asked what the version was and told them how to check it. Apparently they had these things in a warehouse or something, which consumed them time (as I'm to blame for this) and so when I popped those questions they went crazy even writing in caps (quite rude) etc... Shipping to UK wasn't my only option, only my preferred one, maybe the only mistake on my side was not writing also that US address could be an option. Anyway in the end all of this went astray as you can imagine I wasn't going to continue a deal with someone acting like this. In short my mistake perhaps was not asking about shipping from the very beginning, but I didn't do it because I was considering having this shipped to someone or a virtual address in US in the event that the seller wouldn't ship abroad. Besides, this information that I asked him to check was also of his benefit, since he wasn't aware of the variant details or how to check. With this information he could even try to sell it for a higher price or add this information to attract more customers. Anyway a very poor experience with someone rude (because you don't write in caps/shout at people you don't know), very poor customer handling which on top of everything even threatened to report me to ebay for violating ebay rules/policies. Just wanted to vent out a little and also warn you guys about this user. Cheers

Well it was a buy it now and not an auction. I never bid before asking. I told him if he is that much concerned and bothered write it in the description. Normally when that happens I don't even bother myself asking. I even read the description specifically for that.

Nope nothing in the description saying so. Only it didn't have details for international shipping.

eBay is very sneakily opting people into their "International Shipping Program", which means that even if you have your preferences set for domestic shipping only, they will still make your items available to international buyers. I had to opt out of it last year manually, and I just had to do it again last week when I caught a notice in one the many messages they send that I rarely read.
So there's a possibility that they were opted into international selling without their knowledge (like how eBay also will toggle on the offers when you have them off) and I can see how that's frustrating. Still not an excuse to take it out on you though. HM

The whole extra fee for int'l buyers who I don't know are such because they present a domestic address and I don't ship internationally. How am I supposed to know their "address of record" is int'l. Very frustrating- but also not your fault. It's easy enough to decline a buyer graciously instead of being a jerk

It's also frustrating from ebay the fact that they now have an affordable shipping abroad. I bought a Retaliator and recently a crimson hiss and shipping was something between 20 and 25 bucks. In the past shipping something g this size with their GSP was never below 35.in fact you still see these values there. I can only assume they are old listings or user selected the GSP otherwise I don't understand the difference for an exact same item. Maybe the shipping service they use locally? Since these things are shipped via USPS to some hub that then handles the international shipping
